Great Sound, Little Money,
By
This review is from: Philips 2.1 Channels 50 Watts RMS Multimedia Speakers (Personal Computers)
It's sad that these speakers are getting beaten up for poor shipping and handling. Why rate the speakers poor if abusive handling causes damage to your shipped item?
I gave these speakers a 5 for their excellent cost to sound quality ratio. I use them in my bedroom on my gaming PC. Sometimes I play ITunes through them, and they are great for this. Nothing ever distracts me from the sounds I am listening too, whether its the crackle of leaves as I crouch prone through foliage, or I am listening to rock music as I get ready in the morning. There is no hum. There are no imperfections. The Bass is not too heavy. The highs sound good, and the mids are not muddled. Sometimes, sound quality is real hit or miss with computer speakers. Spend too little money, and you get some real garbage. Sometimes the subwoofer isn't matched well to the satellites. I bought an Altec Lansing for my teenage daughter, and the subwoofer on that is VERY overpowering. She uses her headphones most of the time, so its not usually an issue. The Philips set was right on the money. There is no headphone jack, but this is minor. Also, there is a BRIGHT blue LED light on the power switch. Its a fairly good reminder at night for me to power down the speakers. The speakers are low and squat. They are impossible to knock over. I would not trust small children around them as you can easily push on the speaker cone, but there is no bubble to flatten out so it can take some abuse from toddlers and babys. I tucked the subwoofer out of the way. The subwoofer volume control is on the subwoofer box, so its kind of a pain to adjust, but at least I am not accidentally dialing it up like I do with my Creative speakers. For less than a price of a video game, you can have a set of speakers that lasts many years. I have had mine now for 14 months and they are still going strong.

Excellent Sound, Quality Lacking,
This review is from: Philips 2.1 Channels 50 Watts RMS Multimedia Speakers (Personal Computers)
I had purchased these from the Philips Outlet about 2 years ago. They sound great, but lately the volume knob has failed (I believe the soldering must have failed) and the speakers no longer work. Worth the $25 or so I paid then, I wouldn't buy again for more than $30. Also, they get sufficiently loud (and are clear), but only enough to fill a medium-large bedroom.

This is a great product for the price. I used it to play music off my mp3 player mostly and it was great for that. The sound quality is pretty darn good. The bass from the sub is clean and crisp. The mids and highs are good. Not the loudest system around but it is loud enough. I just recently dropped one of the sttelites and broke it loose from the housing so i am upgrading to the logitech z 2300. I loved the speakers i just wanted to try something new. Overall i have been very impressed by this system.

No doubt,

I have tried many different PC speakers in the last years and I can tell, that these are the best for the price. The basses are very round and smooth, the subwoofer doesn't vibrate by itself but makes vibrate all the room! The sound is very rich and well balanced. I guess you can have more, but not for this price.
P.S.: It seems very clear for me: if the problem is the shipment you don't have to think that a product is bad for this...

Great Sound for Cheap,

This review is from: Philips 2.1 Channels 50 Watts RMS Multimedia Speakers (Personal Computers)
I purchased this setup, not for my pc, but to play a cd/mp3 player through. It's impossible to buy a jambox with good rich undistorted sound at a decent volume anymore unless you pay at least 100 bucks. This is perfect for that, it does what I want, and it's way cheaper. The subwoofer is smaller than I thought it would be but easily provides good bass to the music, and it's actually a plus from the standpoint of portability. The satellites provide good sound as well. Overall, I would say that I am quite happy with these, while keeping in mind that this is not a 600 watt surround sound system. For what you are paying, you are getting a 100 watt (combined power) amp, power supply is built in, and 2 speakers (most music is stereo, not 5.1) and a subwoofer. This is all you need for great tunes for one room or outside near the bbq. For next to the pc, it's more than adequate. It's not klipsch, but it's not 300 bucks either. I might hesitate to pay the 60 bucks plus shipping for this set for what you get, but if you watch the sales, you can get this for less. Even 60 is still 20% of the klipsch promedias (probably the best pc speakers available.). These are competing in a different price bracket.
I rated this a 5 not because it blew the doors off of my house with high fidelity wattage, because it's not quite all that, but because it provided solid, loud, sound, with good bass, and portability for 40 bucks, counting shipping. Given this fact, and given the nice solid sound that won't shake my house, but is far more than adequate for some good blues or jazz, I am quite happy with this product.

Amazing!,

I'm in college, these speakers are awesome. I got them cheaper than 50 bucks but that was through Philips and I think they are all out. Even for $50 I think they are worth it. They take hardly any space on my desk, the upper and mid range is crystal clear and the bass can thump loud as anything if you want it to. I was blown away by the sound that came out of these tiny speakers. Works great with my laptop and with my mp3 player. They look great and are sick, get them now.

better than my bose,

These speakers are amazing for the price. They are probably the best in this price range. I have these hooked up to my ipod along with some bose computer speakers. The mms 430s have a much better noise than the bose but together they sound great. The subwoofer is the best it is small(11x7.5) but it has more bass than you would ever need. On youtube there is a bass tester to see how well your sub holds up with the low-high frez bass, it held up alot better than i thought it would. If you are looking for speakers in this price range buy these.

The hardware looks quite nice - however; the subwoofer broke lose from the face plate. I have read a few reviews and they all seem to say - good sound for the money.
The Sattlite speakers were unharmed - however, they must be used for the subwoofer. Contacting Philips for replacement subwoofer - or will return to Amazon if Philips can't fix them. Once I get the hardware fixed I will post a follow up Bradbn4
