I bought this player as a gift for a friend. I own a JVC XV-501BK that's about two years old and twice as expensive. I didn't realize how nice my JVC was until I used this player. The load time of the disc is unusually long (maybe 15 seconds). What exactly is it loading here anyway? My JVC loads a disc in about 2 seconds. The button placement on the remote is a little unusual as well. The play button is in the top middle while the pause is at the bottom right?!?! At least it saves your stopping place when you hit stop (something my JVC doesn't do without hitting "Resume" first). .... .... I'd keep looking if I were you...

Great basic DVD player,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a great basic DVD player for the money. I'm not an expert by any means, but just wanted a good DVD player without breaking my bank account. I'm sure that those wanting very high end Audio/Video output for home theaters will want something more elaborate, but the Philips DVD710AT DVD player gives a great clear picture with nice digital dolby sound and many extra features not available on more expensive models. What a price - and free shipping to boot. If you're looking for a good, solid, basic DVD player, you can't go wrong with this unit. All in all, my kids and I are very happy with it.

My husband loves this DVD Player,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
I bought this DVD player for my husband for his birthday. Ilooked at several of the more expensive DVD players from Toshiba andJVC, but this one seemed to have most of the same features. He wasthrilled. he spent the whole afternoon playing around with it. Hemade me sit through the same scenes, as he hooked it up in differentways . We decided we got the best picture through the component video. He hooked it up through our a/v reciever and it sounds great. Wehave rented DVD's almost every night for the last 2 weeks. For [theprice] this was a great buy. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants tosit on the couch watch movies with their favorite guy.

Not worth a hundred bucks.,

I did not have high hopes, considering the low price point, but this unit still fell below my expectations. The picture quailty is grainy, with pixelizaion on almost every frame. The setup is unintuitive, reminding me of the lowest quality VCR's on the market. The menus display poor, unreadable text. A relative of mine picked up a $100.00 DVD player from a GROCERY store that easily surpassed this unit in quality (and yes, it also had DTS). Philips usually makes good products, so I figured they could pull this off, but I was wrong. Spend the extra money and buy a nice DVD player.

Look At The Price,
By stephen Garry (Manchester England) - See all my reviews

The first thing that draws you towards this dvd player is the price its excellent. The amount of features that you get with this player for the price is good you get, Frame Advance, Camera Angles, Subtitles, Repart and Parental Lock. This is a good player to get you if you are not sure about owning a dvd player as you won't outlay much money if its not for you

Excellent DVD and Superb CD player,
By Audiophile (San Francisco, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
This Philips DVD player is a tremendous value. It has component, S-video, and composite outputs so it will work with the TV you have now and the TV you might buy five years from now. In addition to being an excellent DVD player, it is also a superb CD player and sounds much better than CD players that cost much more than it does. If you need a replacement CD player, buy this instead and get both a CD and DVD player. If you need a DVD player, buy this one and get a CD player that is much better than your current one, as well as a DVD player. You will hear detail, nuances, and subtle tonal qualities that you didn't know were on your CDS. I don't mean to ignore the quality of the Philips as a DVD player because it is a superb DVD player, but it will be a revelation to most people as a CD player, because they've probably never before heard how good a CD can sound until they hear one playing on this Philips.

What is that noise?,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
Great price, but why does it make that noise? It would be great if the noise was actually the audio from the DVD, but it isnt. The noise this thing makes from spinning the DVD overpowers the audio completely. It also takes a long time to load and the display is very primitive looking. You DO get what you pay for.

If you have never had a DVD before this is a great starter. It hooks right up to your surround system and the sound and picture quality are great for this price. I am very satisfied.

I 'm returning it.,

I'm really disappointed with this unit. I thought the Philips name was good enough to buy. It's not a terrible machine considering the price, but you get what you pay for. Make sure you know what you are buying. Read the specs before you decide to buy. This machine might be good for a second player for the kids, but definitely not an unit for a state of the art home theater.

IT SUCKS,
By "psychogamer" (St.Paul, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips DVD710AT DVD Player (Electronics)
This is a piece of junk. I bought it becuase it seemed like a good deal. I got it and everything worked fine at first , the load times were a little slow. Then after about a month and a half it wouldn't play any discs anymore. And I hardly used it because I was just starting up my collection. Now ... won't take it back because it broke down after the 30 day time limit so I have to try and deal with the warranty company. Steer clear of this product. I'd suggest investing the money in a decent player, it may cost a little more but chances are it won't break down like this one has for me.
