Video outputs consist of 1 each component-video, S-video, and composite-video, which together accommodate nearly every set out there. The component-video outputs help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions. (If your older TV has no colored RCA video input jacks, merely a threaded RF coaxial-type audio/video input, you'll need a video modulator/switcher, sold separately.)
A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio outputs (1 each of RCA coaxial and Toslink optical) for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.
This player also offers a dedicated monaural subwoofer output to channel the low-frequency effects signals--the ".1" in a 5.1 or 6.1 surround program--to a stand-alone active subwoofer. This means you can enjoy dynamic, full-bodied sound from your movies and music DVDs even if you don't have a full surround system. You just need an integrated (stereo) amplifier, left/right speakers, and a powered subwoofer.
If you don't have a surround receiver or multichannel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: TruSurround 3D simulates surround sound through 2 speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).
What's in the Box
DVD player, remote control, batteries, user's manual, stereo analog audio interconnect/composite-video cable.
Like the DVD712AT, most Philips DVD players feature a dual-laser drive in which each laser's wavelength is optimized for DVD and CD, respectively. This guarantees the best performance for movies and music.
Also offers perfect picture stills and zoom. Parental control and disc lock let you decide which discs your children can watch.

Great Value Solid Performance,

The CD player has a 96/24 DAC the same as mid range stand alone players. Video decoding is only 10 bit. The CD audio quality is as good as a stand alone deck of the same price. MP3 decoding sounds surprisingly good, but has a tendency to skip alot. The DVD picture quality is very good, but I recommend you use the individual preferences on the main menu to fine tune this deck to your TV. This deck doesnt have its own surround sound decoders so you will need to use the ones in your home theater receiver. The deck is lightweight and insubstantial feeling. All in all a wonderful value at this price.

a good choice,

We bought this one a month ago & had no problems. We chose it based on the ability to play MP3's (seven hours of music on one disc burned from the Powerbook) and V-CD's (home movies burned from the computer on ultra cheap CD's!)A good investment.

I purchased this player about 3 weeks ago and I just can't get enough of it. It's extremely basic and the perfect player for a beginner. Highly recommended A++++
