4.0 out of 5 stars Great for Price
I bought this DVD in January 2006 and have not regretted to this day. There is the issue of the eject button being absent but then again, when you eject via remote control, you still have to get up to get the DVD out of the player so maybe it is not so necessary to have an eject button. I've had no problems with this player playing my home made DVDs unlike others. It...

I just purchased this VCR/DVD combo at the local Wal-Mart (sorry Amazon, I had gift cards to spend, otherwise I would have purchased it here). =)

It was extremely easy to set up, and it played the first DVD flawlessly. I noticed in another review that someone complained about the DVD tray. I did not find it anymore flimsy than other DVD players in the same price range.

My only wish is that it did have an eject button on the remote. It does seem odd that Philips didn't include that feature.

Overall, I am pleased and highly recommend buying this product. If you're looking for a ton of bells and whistles and something not encased in plastic, then this isn't the product for you. But it is a decent product to watch the occasional movie, whether it be on DVD or VHS.

No eject button from the remote and the VHS rewind is slow as molasses. Otherwise OK but you can get something more up to date for the same price.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of Crap, December 10, 2006
This review is from: Philips DVP3050V/37 DVD/VCR Combo (Electronics)
I bought this for my elderly mother - not a whiz at electronics but she knows how to insert a disc and hit play. However, it seems the machine doesn't know how to scan a disc and play. We would get various screen messages, "insert a disc," "faulty disc," "loading," but the thing wouldn't kick in. We'd eject and clean the disc. We'd eject and and re-load the disc. We'd turn it off and on again; "insert a disc," "faulty disc," "loading." Sometimes, after who knows which combination, Oh! it would play! Pretty darn frustrating for an elderly lady and her daughter so I swapped it out for my Samsung 4600. Now she is happily watching Christmas with Andre Rieu and I am listening to jet aircraft approching as I try to watch a VHS cassett. (it's pretty loud)

1.0 out of 5 stars Dead after 2 minutes, August 13, 2006

Can't say much for the video or sound quality, menu options, or anything really, since this thing broke after 2 minutes of watching Monsters, Inc. on DVD. Playback just froze, the thing stopped recognizing that DVDs were in unless you turned the thing off and then back on again, and after another minute it wouldn't even start playing the thing at all, just whirred a lot.

So, dud.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellant Piece of Electronics for the PRICE!, September 22, 2007

MY GOD! I cannot believe some of the other reviews for this item! Complaints because it does not have an Eject Button on the remote control?!!! Have we become so bloody lazy in the U.S. that we cannot get off our butt and press the Eject Button on the face of the machine! Give me a break! I purchased my unit earlier this year through Amazon and while it was a little difficult to understand the different functions at first it has worked wonderfully since then. Yes, from time to time it will not switch from DVD to VCR without pressing the VCR Eject Button to re-set the machine, at the US$57.99 I paid for the unit it is a small price to pay. I have owned both Philips and Philips/Magnavox TV's, VCR's and DVD Players since the 1980's and have found them all to be very durable and long lasting if treated with respect. DVD Picture and Sound are fine on this machine and the Picture and Sound on the VCR are really dependant on the tape quality being played or recorded upon. I believe this is an exellent piece for the cost and would recomend it to those looking for an inexpensive DVD/VCR Combo!

1.0 out of 5 stars Never worked once, December 2, 2011

Purchased at WalMart. The VHS worked, but the DVD never worked properly once. It would skip, stop, restart the program constantly. We never saw a single DVD all the way through. Contacted WalMart and Phillips both, with no satisfaction from either. Phillips was hard to contact, and when I finally got through to someone, their only solution was to sell me a reconditioned one. I had a service technician look at it, and he could find nothing, but we fought it for four years, mostly trying to just ignore it. My main objection was Phillips' position was basically, "Your player, your problem." I finally took it into the backyard, got my sledge hammer out of the shop, and adjusted it myself. Problem solved.

I purchased one of these combos and was very disappointed...It will be returned immediately. I purchased from Value City and the DVD tray does not work....a malfunction, I assume. It is definitely a waste of time and money. I higly Reccommend not wasting your money on this one!

Great DVD/VCR combo but does not play DVD's from other region. Does not have an eject button on the remote either. If u have DVD's, VCD from other countries that you would be playing I do not recommed this player.

4.0 out of 5 stars works great, great price, May 8, 2011
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)

this product was just what we were looking for. it was a great price and it works great. the only problem when we first got it, anything we were watching on tv while taping was fuzzy but that problem worked itself out (we just thought it was because the vcr hadn't been used that much). also, the remote to the vcr didn't work well at first but it now works well (we also attributed this to lack of use by the previous owner). overall, i would reccommend this product and seller to someone in the future.
