It's sad to see some of the bad reviews here. I see a lot of people complaining about the remote not having an eject feature, no manual tracking, and a lot of other what I feel is non relevant to this awesome unit! First of all you CAN manually adjust the tracking of tapes, just look at page 33 of your User Manual. Read the manual people!! I know it looks like 200 pages long but in the English part it's a whole 66 pages!! As far as having a button to open the disc tray you still have to get up and change the disc's anyway. Lets get to what really matters, I have a $300.00 Toshiba unit that won't play any DVD's unless it's a commercial one bought in the store. This system plays every disc I own, commercial, burned +, -, you name it! The hook up is a breeze, The sound with the High Fi is awesome and my tapes play great! It records television no problem. I just want to say an awesome unit for an awesome price!! Thanks,Wayne L.

half of this never worked,

I decided to risk the purchase based on previous reviews. I got it and it seemed like it would be fine. The VCR portion worked beautifully, audio and video. The DVD portion's audio was fine, but the video never worked - all I saw was jagged lines across the screen. Would not recommend this product.

Cheap quality, Bad Remote,

I purchased this vcr/dvd based on the fact that it wasn't the most expensive one and it wasn't the cheapest either. As soon as I took it out of the box I was unhappy. It is a featherweight. It does not play any of my VHS tapes that I had previously taped on my old VCR. The tracking is off and you can't fix it manually. I dislike the remote - the control buttons for which unit you are controlling are hard to find - buried in the middle of the all the buttons. There is no volume control or easily identifiable tracking buttons on the remote. The stop button is also the rewind button, and it kept doing the opposite of what I was trying to make it do. The channel changing number buttons are small and not easy to use because of their low position on the remote. Overall I was quite unhappy with my purchase and am taking it back to the store.

Does exactly what I want!,

Before buying this one, I actually first bought a cheaper DVD/VCR combo. But found that one only has playback capability. No recording, no TV tuner. Returned it because I want a full functioning VCR.
There are two Philips models that I seriously considered: Philips DVP3150V and DVP3340V. They are same price, but I found again that DVP3340V has no TV tuner! Look around you will be surprised how many VCR/DVD players do not come with a TV tuner today! This is an important fuction of a VCR, why cut it? just to save manufacturing cost??!!! I am glad that the DVP3150V has everything. All I need for a low price. You name it, VHS playback, DVD+R/DVD-R readability, TV tuner/recording...These are what matters for a VCR/DVD combo. The picture quality of this VCR is good. This Philips serves your basic A/V needs at a really small fraction of the cost those video enthusiastics pay!

Nice little player,
This review is from: Philips DVP3150V HiFi DVD/VCR Combo (Electronics)
This is a nice little player for the money.
I was going to talk about the functionality of this product however, I am still recovering from a serious fall from my computer chair and pains in my stomach from laughter. It seems the comment made by the Rocket Scientist that he had to get up from his chair to use the eject button was just to much comedy for me in one day. If anyone out there knows of a dvd player with a remote control that ejects the dvd, hands it to you, then puts another dvd of your choice into the player without you getting out your chair to do it, then please let us know. I await in anticipation.....

Does what you would expect for $80.,

We shouldn't complain...VCRs are getting harder to find, especially one that actually works.
I installed this on an older analog TV, and the picture quality with a coax cable is quite good for both DVD and VCR. However, two different S-Video cables did NOT work with this unit, so I went back to a coax. I suppose my mom wont complain. Setup is a little convoluted, you may have to refer to the manual to get this unit working, but at least the manual appears to be fairly coherent and the instructions are clear. The remote is somewhat confusing with too many buttons and not enough features, but again for the money this is not a bad choice, especially for a secondary TV. One flimsy composite cable is included and batteries for the remote.

I've had this unit for a few months, and so far it works as well as the expensive and completely reliable JVC that I've had for thirteen years. My Philips was a display unit that I got for a ridiculously low price.
The remote does suck. It requires a microscope to read, and its button arrangement seems designed to confuse rather than help. The negative reviews I've read here are alarming. I'm not superstitious, so I won't cross my fingers. But I am waiting anxiously to see if all continues to go well. With bated breath.

Locks Up,
This review is from: Philips DVP3150V HiFi DVD/VCR Combo (Electronics)
I am on my 2nd unit and both lockup after a short time. Neither the remote nor the front buttons will work when it locks up. You have to unplug it and leave it unplugged for at least 5 minutes - maybe longer. It works good when it is working!

Great DVD/VCR Combo from Philips. I've had good luck with Philips products. Gave DVD/VCR to my Dad as a Xmas gift and he loves it.
I always hate to give reviews afraid it would jinz it but we are very pleased with this product so far.

I used to think Philips was good quality,
This review is from: Philips DVP3150V HiFi DVD/VCR Combo (Electronics)
Based on my personal experience with the Philips DVP 3150V: I bought this for my parents so they could view DVD video sent to them from our family from the East coast. The DVDs that they received were produced on excellent video equipment but did not play on the DVD player despite all of the manual's "Hoorah." I could play the DVDs on my computer so I went out and bought seven different types of DVD+R and DVD-R media. None of them worked. Simple 30 minute DVDs didn't work at all; NONE. I immediately brought them my Daewoo which proceeded to play every DVD and is six years older than the Philips. I won't knock the play of pre-recorded and regular rental DVDs for that it's excellent but if you want to watch DVD videos made by family and friends from all over the globe, some in hostile areas, I'm convinced, this is not the VCR/DVD Player to go with. It's garbage and the mere fact it doesn't play our family/friends movies means that whatever Philips wrote on the box to sell it can't always be believed. The remote, well, I won't even comment about that. This is something that would be great for a classroom but it doesn't belong in a living room during a holiday when it fails to play family made DVD videos. The only reason it gets a "one star" rating is because amazon's system won't let me grade that low. Emotions are what fuel our happiness and right now, I ain't very happy. Skip this one, look at an eight year old Daewoo. Disclaimer: Once again, this is based on my personal experience with the Philips DVP 3150V.
