Good for the price,

This review is from: Philips DVP3980/F7 DVD Player with 1080P HDMI Upconversion (Electronics)
Bought this about 5 months ago, and has worked well- It does seem to do a good job upconverting to a 1080p plasma display. Caught the orange screen of death today, and after some searching on the net, it turns out this is a common problem (the black background turns green, blues turn orange, etc.)- And if you unplug it, then plug it back in, the colors return to normal (hope that doesn't happen very often!).

Slow,

This product is extremely slow, it often takes 15-45 seconds to eject a disc or just open the tray. When turned on it takes many seconds before being usable. I am very tired of waiting for this unit to function.Part of the reason for any load delay may be the unit's one redeeming feature. It saves your spot on any disc you have played recently, loading the same location when restarted. This feature is nice but each disc will have to be searched for that spot on start up. It is likely the cause of much of the delay. Recently I tried a DVD in it that would not read, but a cheap portable player would. The long load and eject times in addition to read failures cause me to give this a poor rating.

Had it 2 months before the orange screen of death appeared. Just googled Philips DVD player orange screen and learned this is a common problem. Don't buy this unit or other Philips DVD players
