3.0 out of 5 stars It plays stuff; can't say a lot more than that., January 25, 2009
I don't exactly know which of these millions of products numbered DVP 5140 mine is; I got it for about $70 from somewhere--it could even be Amazon.

I plays both commercial DVDs and home-made DVDs without much of a fuss, but it is rather a plain vanilla machine. The remote has minimal capability, and I miss some of the features my old Sony has. I have an old tube TV, and so I can't say whether the performance of this gadget would be superior to the performance of my old gadget as far as quality on a digital screen is concerned.

It has the capability of resuming playback from where the DVD was stopped earlier, but it does that sometimes, and not at other times, and I don't know how to make it do that if I need it. It seemed to do a resume even on one occasion when I actually removed the DVD briefly, and played another one. This is unbelievable; I can't believe that the thing has an internal memory. Maybe I imagined the whole thing. (I don't take drugs, or anything. wait, maybe it was the chicken.)
