Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the DVP620VR stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
The VCR's 4-head design ensures smooth slow-motion play (forward and reverse) and clear still-frame images, 19-micron heads deliver the clearest possible picture when recording or viewing in EP (extended-play) mode, and with hi-fi sound the unit records and plays back stereo audio tracks. Other features include 1-touch recording, timer recording, auto head cleaning, and auto repeat playback (great for trade shows and presentations). You can even copy from DVD to VHS tape, providing the DVD is not Macrovision copy-protected--a great idea for sharing your disc-based home videos with friends and family who don't yet have DVD players.
Video connections include front- and rear-panel composite-video inputs and rear-panel RF coaxial video in and out jacks--perfect for either spontaneous hookups (like a camcorder or second VCR) or permanent connections (as with a cable box or DVR). Outputs include a single composite-video output for DVD/VCR video signals and DVD-only outputs for component-video (switchable for 480i and 480p, depending on your TV) and S-video.
A set of left/right analog-audio outputs channel audio from both the DVD player and the VCR to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound signals can be routed through the player's coaxial digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver. If you don't have a surround receiver or six-channel speaker setup, you can still make every movie night the ultimate experience: virtual surround sound simulates surround sound through two speakers (even the stereo speakers on your TV).
Playback options include single-disc resume, which lets you pick-up where you left off on your current DVD (not applicable for MP3 or JPEG CDs), disc-lock parental controls, and picture zoom for magnification of select images.
What's in the Box
DVD-Video player/VCR, remote control with batteries, a user's manual, and an analog audio/composite-video interconnect.

This review is from: Philips DVP620VR Progressive Scan DVD / VCR Combo (Electronics)
This is a zone free DVD player I've been looking for a long time. I would buy it on the spot if it was still available. I'd rather read instructions once than pay $$$ for the Blue-ray unit with the same zone free feature!
