all discs are bad discs for this DVD player,
By
This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
This DVD player is just bad. It is slow when scanning, and does not play many DVDs for unknown reasons, saying that they are "bad disks". This includes trials with new DVDs, used DVDs, copies of DVDs; the player does not discriminate by type or age of the DVDs. I have tried the same DVDs on a Koss DVP2161, and did not encounter any problem playing them.

Won't read discs!,

This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
This dvd player failed to recognize all copied dvds I made. The box clearly states that this dvd player will play DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW. Well, I tried both -R and -RW types. Bad disc message is all that I received. No recognition of anything I had recorded. So, I went and put both DVDs into my panasonic dvd player and they played great. I would say stay away from this dvd player.

Great, slimline player!,
This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
I picked up this player because I have a 5" LCD that I wanted to set up with a nice, slim DVD player in my Toyota Rav4 so that the kids can watch DVDs in the backseat when we're on the road. I look at some Cyberhome and Oritron units that were smaller, but the reviews on them were mostly horrible, with usually 2-3 people with 4-5 stars and 70-80 with 1-2 stars. For $10 more, I thought the DVD622/37 would be a great deal. It fits under the driver's seat in my car perfectly, and so far it's played all the DVD-R and DVD+R discs I've thrown at it. I would say for $10 more, it would be crazy to pass not this unit in favor of an Oritron or Cyberhome, which seem to have a lifespan of 2-12 months.

Good Low Budget DVD Player,
By
This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Indeed I am in part perplexed by the other reviewers critique of this item. First off, this is the only low budget dvd I have ever had much success with. The quality of the images, sound, etc. has remained as the primary reason why I have continued to recommend this product. This is the only piece of electornic equipment I have purchased multiple times to give as gifts. Each individual who has received this dvd player as a gift has yet to have a problem. I have never had a problem with this dvd.
Each of these pieces of equipment that I have personally purchased and given to others has yet to 'cause a problem. I am very well pleased with this item and so are my family & friends. I have never had a problem in using store bought dvds or burned dvds with this item; and as far as I know neither have any of my friends and families. When I make a backup of my dvds I use DVDFab to do so. Maybe its the method in which these others individuals burn that 'causes a problem who knows. However dvds that are burn with Nero or other have also worked fine on this dvd player. Anyhow this is has remained for me and for others an excellent dvd player.

WILL NOT PLAY DVD+R DISCS!!!!,
This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Bought this because my ancient Playstation-2 sometimes (not always) hits a snag with DVD+R. Could not believe it when this unit, advertised (even on the box) said it will play DVD+R plus everything else. Tried the discs on other players and they played (even picky PS2). Then read others had the same problem, so back this thing goes. It is TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE for a new unit in 2006 to lack this ability. Even crusty old players are worth more than this.

Nice player for regular Movie DVD's,
By
This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
This player will play nearly all movies except the occasional DVD's that are burned at odd burn rates. If you have made you own DVD's the burn must be lower than 4x to work on this player. There are firmware upgrades that are supposed to resolve this issue from Phillips. Great Zoom feature using the remote.

I have to admit I am impressed by the negative comments I have read about this product. Yuo all must have received a defective unit or just got unlucky with it. I got this DVD at JC Penney on sale for $29.95 in August 2006 because I needed a new cheap DVD player with progressive scan. Then I come to find out that this DVD player has both NTSC and PAL which is great for me that I watch movies from Italy. I already had one Sampo DVD region free to dothis but I searched online to see if I could unlock this Philips. Found it. After pressing 8 buttons this cheap DVd player plays anything I feed him with. It does play PC recorded DVDs too. Its menu is easy to use and so its remote. The progressive scan picture looks great on my 50" Panasonic plasma. And all for $29.95.

Nice price. Poor product. Poor customer service.,

12 months after I bought this DVD player it stopped working; it randomly stops and resets itself every 5 to 10 minutes.
I called Philips technical support and after navigating their support phone line for half an hour and speaking to an agent for five minutes they told me that because it is out of warranty and this model is no longer covered by their 'Out of Warranty Reduced Cost Exchange' program, all I can do is go to their website and buy a new model. I asked if I could troubleshoot it and was told that they no longer support this product. I'll be staying away from Philips products from now on; budget or high-end.

No Sound,
This review is from: Philips DVP622/37 Progressive-Scan DVD Player (Electronics)
Had this DVD player for a year and watched about 5 movies a month when the audio outputs stopped delivering sound. Phillips used to make great equipment, this DVD player is junk. Save yourself some money and buy the "El Cheapo" DVD player for $30.00. The cheapies last longer and they're made in the same place as the high end models with the same materials and lack of quality.
