Philips PM4S 4 Device Universal Remote Conrol

Bought this universal remote because 1) it was cheap, 2) replacing the original remote for 12-year old Magnavox 25" t.v. (that remote held together with rubber bands, the button-pressing becoming harder and harder, less and less responsive), and thought, since Philips owns Magnavox, that this remote might work on the t.v. 3) and if it also worked the Samsung combo dvd-vcr player (1.5 years old), that would be a plus.
Purchase went great -- got the remote (on Fri., in Fla.) 5 days after buying it (on Sun.). Set-up of remote was also great. It immediately turned on the 12-year-old Magnavox t.v., and using the codes listed in the manual, we got the Samsung combo dvd-vcr to turn on after a few tries. The instructions in the owners manual are simple, and clear.
The remote works both the t.v. and combo dvd-vcr fine. The only thing it doesn't do is switch between the dvd and vcr functions of the combo. To do that we have to either 1) press the button that switches between dvd and vcr on the front of the unit when we put in a dvd or video tape, or 2) press the button that does that on the unit's remote.
So ... 5 stars. Works great. Is light-weight. Simple to set up. Recognized both our t.v. and combo dvd-vcr unit. And doing that -- for the price -- makes it a great bargain. Thank you Philips. Thank you Amazon.

The Philips PM4S 4 device Universal Remote Control is a nice looking remote. It is easy to program with one drawback. The list of devices is somewhat extensive. It is easy to connect with different devices once they are programed.

The one disadvantage that I have found is that some television sets are not in the programing instructions, and the auto program feature does not work well with the unlisted set I had. I was not able to program that tv into the remote control. I would have to think twice before recommending tis item to others.

In fairness: I'm using this on a DVD/VCR combo, which many people seem to feel is especially challenging. It didn't take me that long to find the right code to control my DVD player. But the only controls that actually function are Play, Pause and Stop. No forward/rewind, no arrows for making menu selections. Therefore, basically useless to me.

DON'T lose the code sheet. Very little on the internet re: codes for this remote, and practically no help anywhere else.

Otherwise, it has worked with all my electronics, and is a great price.
