So far, a nice player,
This review is from: Philips EXP2581 Portable MP3-CD Player (Electronics)
I've owned this player for a week and I like it. It has a simple, uncluttered design and I found the touch interface responsive. Philips is a co-inventor of the CD format, so I thought sound wise they might have done something special under the hood, but the sound is only average - still better than 256kbps AAC Plus files from iTunes. The build quality (made in China) is pretty good with clean seams and the plastic on the bottom has a kind of rubbery feel which looks good. The top has a clear plastic overlay with a reflective undercoating that changes its design when moved around. Using 2 AA rechargeable batteries, I get about 15-20 hours of CD playback, less than the 30 hours advertised but that's because the spec is for MP3/WMA playback. There is a Resume function which allows you to shut off the player to conserve battery life yet, when turned back on the player starts from where you left off and it worked as advertised. The included remote is a bit larger than the pencil type designs and has larger buttons to press. The FM function is very limited and there's no way to visibly know what station you're on, but it can be used separate from the CD player and there is an elastic armband case that is included for this purpose.
Pros: - simple design with above average build quality for the price - cool touch interface with or without audible feedback - higher quality sound than compressed lossy files Cons: - FM function is very limited - no backlit display - physically larger than many other players, especially the height

Only two problems.,
This review is from: Philips EXP2581 Portable MP3-CD Player (Electronics)
Haha, well I have to say that even with the two problems I have with this CD player it definitely better than the CD player I've been using for years (Its from 1994). The touch screen is very responsive and i have no trouble with it. i like the 'resume' feature also. The first problem i have with this CD player is that it will just stop playing and freeze up in the middle of a song. I've only had the thing for a month and the more often i use it the more often this problem seems to happen. My second problem is that i don't like the 'DBB' (Double Bass Booster). I've found that that all that it does is make my music sound murky.

I use my CD players to listen to audio books when I go to bed. I am loving the remote control -- really easy to use. I would not be happy, however, if it only had the touch screen. I have gone through several CD players and so far this is the best (have been using for 10 days).

Personally, I'd rather have my MP3 player, but this was a gift for my sister. She loves it. It's a cd player that plays MP3s and has pretty good storage for up to 60 songs. If you can't afford a real MP3 player or are particularly attached to your cds, then this is the way to go.

A good product, I guess, but the touch screen is a pretty pointless addition to a product that works fine with regular buttons. I've ripped it apart to compare with the competitive products (don't ask why, for work) and the Philips stacks up well.

I purchased this player a few weeks ago as a tool to use during my workouts. It works pretty good. The only thing I noticed that was different from the last Philips player I had is that this one isn't as loud. Otherwise I am faiarly comfortable with the purchase overall.

Those giving this a good review must never have owned an IRiver or high end Sony Walkman disc player. Please tell me what the devil does RESUME do that PAUSE has not always done? You can not return to your play point if you turn it off. If you leave it in base boost, that setting does not hold once you turn it off. Even the volume selected doesn't hold after it is turned off. Sound Quality is lousier if you attach headset to the pie unit through the flimsy feeling remote than if you connect it directly to the unit.
That answers the user who asked why does this have a touch screen at all. It has it so that you do NOT have to use the remote. Less cord to have dangling around you and BETTER ACOUSTICS without the remote. Mine came with a dead remote. Seller was great. Replaced entire unit without hesitation or demanding, return of the unit or even an RA. Don't expect any real audio enjoyment with this model. Yes you have to bare with a beep every time you skip songs. How annoying can it be? I guess I have to buy the better Sony even though the $175 and up price tags are obscene. Those units were just $41 a year and a half ago!!! It does have an easy to read display and is cute I'll give it that and it does about as much as it should for the mere twenty four dollars I paid.

Unfortunately I didn't keep the wrapping or this player would have been returned. It never worked properly and makes me very wary of buying electronic over the net. I certainly have learned to keep the wrapping for a long time. buyer beware. don't buy this item. even if it did work it's not easy to use. I think it's a factory defect. I would give it no stars if that were possible.
