Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

With the ability to play standard and recordable CDs--including discs brimming with MP3 music files--The Philips EXP320 is a great basic CD player. Its rich sound and extended, 100-second skip protection make it perfect for listening, studying, and exercising. It also offers shuffle and repeat modes, and heat-resistant body and handy belt clip let you use this CD player anywhere.

"Magic" electronic skip protection automatically stores digital music information during play using a 100-second buffer (MP3, 128 kbps) and inserts it in place of lost information when the CD player is bumped or shaken, preventing interruptions caused by shocks and vibration. Playback options include 50-track programming for extended MP3 sequencing, resume (a bookmark function that picks up playback where you last stopped), repeat (track or disc), and random play.

MP3 features include ID3 tag recognition for convenient song and artist name displays, and a navigation system that lets you scroll through discs by either album or by individual track. Included MusicMatch software makes CD-to-MP3 conversion a cinch, offering free artist and track lookup from an online database.

A hold switch prevents unintended interruptions in playback and saves batteries by negating playback when the player is stopped. Auto power off kicks in one minute after playback has ended, an additional battery-saving convenience. The onboard one-bit digital-to-analog converter renders digital audio as smoothly and accurately as possible. The player runs for approximately 20 hours (MP3 playback; 15 hours for audio CD) on two standard AA batteries (not supplied).

What's in the Box
CD player, stereo headphones, car cassette adapter, 4.5V car cigarette lighter DC power adapter, a belt clip, a user's manual, and free MusicMatch software.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Product for the Price, October 24, 2003

Overall this is a good product for the price. However, the display scrolls the song across pretty slow. This keeps you from seeing the entire song title prior to the song beginning to play. Also, it does not allow you to scan through a track/song. You can only skip to the next track. Don't let these discourage you though, it's cheaper than a standard MP3 player and pretty easy to use. Good Buy!

2.0 out of 5 stars Finicky, short lived player..., November 19, 2004

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Philips EXP320 Portable MP3/CD Player (Electronics)
About 30 minutes after I bought this player it gave the message "OOPS" while playing back an mp3 file. After much searching, it turns out that this is the error message when the player has a buffer problem. Unfortunately, you can't turn the buffer off, and if you move around through your music a lot, you'll be seeing OOPS a lot.

I've had this player for a shade under a year now, and when it's not giving me the standard OOPS message, it works fairly. The seek time between mp3s isn't TOO bad, and if you just let it play through it's passable. The sound quality isn't too bad, either. It's a bit of a warmer sound compared to a similarly priced Sony model. The sound was the main reason I stuck with this model after trying Sony, Virgin, and RCA models.

Unfortunately, I keep seeing OOPS more and more often these days - and it's a pervasive problem. It's pretty common, and I've tried 2 of these players with the same effect. Unfortunately, now the player is getting to the point where it will not even play normal CDs. It has started crackling and skipping, unable to play, on even brand new CDs.

If you can find this player really cheap, it may not be a bad purchase. If, however, you are looking for something that will last a while with few problems, you may wish to look elsewhere.
