Neodymium Construction for Rich, Balanced Sound

The DS3010 has been engineered to deliver crisp, detailed sound that will satisfy even the most attentive listeners. Thanks to its neodymium magnets, the speaker is able to produce pure sound with superior bass response. Highs, mids, and lows are all rendered in exquisite detail, so you can hear your music as it was meant to be heard.

The speaker also features special shielding technology, which helps block mobile phone interference when receiving phone calls.

Bass-Enhancing Technology for Booming Audio

The DS3010 provides incredible sound. If you prefer your music with a kick, you can activate Dynamic Bass Boost (DBB) with the touch of a button. DBB helps emphasize the bass content of music, allowing you to feel the "thump" of the bass even when the volume is low. The result is richer, more robust sound at all volumes.

Computer Synchronization

The DS3010 charges your iPod or iPhone while it's docked, so your device is ready when you are. While charging, it can synchronize with your computer via a USB cable for access to your entire iTunes library. For added versatility, the speaker also includes an aux-in port for connection to a variety of other electronic devices.

Free Fidelio App Unlocks Additional Features

If you own an iPod Touch or iPhone you can unlock even more features for your docking speaker using the complementary Fidelio app. The Philips Fidelio app lets you control your speaker dock's acoustic properties, access 7000+ free internet radio stations, share music you are listening to with friends via facebook and twitter, set alarms to wake to your favorite music, photo or weather conditions and much more using your iPhone or iPod touch.

Being a Bose SoundDock owner, I had high expectations for this device and was pleasantly surprised that it delivered in spades.

DESIGN:
The design is asthetically pleasing, front speaker mesh looks good and is tightly stretched. The Ipod connector is sturdy and holds my 3rd gen Nano w/ no issues. The built in volume buttons are backlit, a nice touch.

SOUND:
This thing is LOUD. I listen to high bitrate mp3s and podcasts on my Ipod and the clarity was flawless. The bass boost technology delivers surprisingly solid deep notes. Not that hollow tinny sound you find in many cheap portable devices. Sound quality is good from behind the device also.

ACCESSORIES:
Don't have an ipod? No problem. Just hook the included USB cable to your laptop and play your music library through iTunes over the Philips. Beats the crap out of laptop speakers! The unit also runs on 4 AA batteries, which would make it easy to throw in a bag an take to the beach. There's nothing in the manual on how long it will run on batteries, so I can't speak on that. There is an auxillary mini headphone cable you could hook a non-ipod mp3 player up to the unit with also, so this isn't only for Ipod/Iphone owners. **BONUS!** I don't own an iPhone, but I threw some batteries in this thing and hooked my phone up to it w/ the auxillary cable and I was able to jam in the backyard to some Pandora!

All in all, this is a quality electronic device, and that shows in both the craftsmanship and performance.

6 WEEK LATER EDIT: I have taken this badboy to the beach 3-4 times now and it is AWESOME. I hooked the phone up through the aux port and jammed some Pandora radio. I'd say I get about 3 hours out of Costco AAs in it so I just keep 8 in the beach bag and I'm set. Very nice portable setup.

This is a very nice sounding speaker system for your iphone or ipod. It also has a free app (search under Phillips Fidelio, or just Phillips on Itunes if you want to see app screen shot and user reviews) that expand the capabilities of the speaker. It also has an aux in that I really like and the ability to synch to your computer while your device is docked.

The most important part of the Phillips is how it sounds. I was very impressed. I have had compact speakers before and the sound is a cut above most and is definitely good sound for the current price point. Very rich and lush and easily loud enough to fill our 18 by 18 living room. Good bass, very much to my liking. Not too much bass but the bass that is there is rich and resonant. I also like the aux in which allows for a lot of versatility. You can use this as your computer speaker. I might go android in my next phone, but this will still work. My Zune works with it. You also get a cable to allow synching while docked. Doubt I will use this option much, but it is there if someone wanted to. The speaker also looks nice and is compact enough (batteries are an option) to take on outings. If you wanted some sound at the next family get together at the park, this would be a good option.

The app has potential. It is generally not being well received on Itunes. And I can see why, somewhat. Not everything promised in the description currently works. Nonetheless, it has some useful features. There are alarm and sleep features. This makes it a good and useful choice to use as bedroom speakers. There are also currently five or so choices on the `equalizer' for different types of music. I really didn't hear much difference. But the app screenshots make it look like you can customize settings. I could not get this to work. Also not working is the Bluetooth. It says off and simply will not work. You can turn the dynamic bass boost off and on. It also has weather from accuweather that displays nicely and a clock display if wanted. There is room for improvement. Being able to customize the equalizer would be nice as would more theme (wallpaper) settings for the display (currently 2). All in all though the app does add nice functionality especially if wanting to use your device as an alarm clock. You can even choose the wakeup picture. You can also share songs you are listening to on twitter and Facebook. The app is better than the reviews on Itunes would leave you to believe, it works for the most part, and makes the speaker more useful.

The app also works with the Tunein internet radio app. I had already purchased Tunein so not sure if you would have to purchase it, but I suspect you would. However Tunein is a GREAT app. Before getting my Iphone I had purchased 2 internet radios at over a $100 each. The Tunein app is better than either of them. Highly recommended. The Phillips app does not add anything to the Tunein app itself and in fact I can not find my bookmarks while using the Fidelio app. But if you want to go to sleep with a Tunein station you get that functionality. Speaking of music apps, I wanted to point out, since if you are considering this you like music on your device, one of my favorite music apps, NPR music. This is a fantastic app free or otherwise (it is free). They constantly update album previews. These are entire albums. I have listened to more new albums in the past 6 months than the previous 6 years with this app. Bunch of other cool stuff as well. It is one of my top 10 must have Iphone apps.

Bottomline with this speaker. I think people will be pleased. Sound quality is there. You have aux in. You have an ok app with the potential to be even better. You have battery use when you want it. It looks nice. Definitely a recommended item.

This docking speaker, made by Philips, is a tremendous accompaniment to your IPhone, IPod, and recorded music. Used to listen to music on the computer-did not realize what I was missing until this came.

As soon as the docking apparatus arrived, I plugged in my iPod and have scarcely enjoyed music so much.

The quality of sound is indeed impressive; the music is richer and fuller.

This little unit is attractive and easy to set up and use. It has a small footprint and fits just about anywhere.

The acoustic quality of this device is fantastic-it is a tremendous value and very well priced for such a terrific sound machine!
