I like having so much space for my music, but it is so difficult to download my songs to it. It will go through my list and "error" on many of the songs...without rhyme or reason. And I won't even get into the video portion of the problems. Would not recommend.

This player has it all! Better than the name-brand player in my opinion, because it includes radio--a feature that a certain seller of mp3 players will never include in their unit because they want to make you to buy music from their website, of course. This player plays windows media audio files in addition to MP3s, but not wma_pro files, so keep that in mind you windows media player version 10+ users. The unit does play video, not the greatest quality, only 11 frames per second, but only in a certain format, and there is a converter software included with the player, to convert (it can take much longer to convert the video than it does to watch the video...) from various formats to the format that is played on this unit. 2GB is great capacity when you are using 64kbps wma (equivalent to 4GB music in MP3 format). In addition to all these great features, it also records voice in a reduced bit wav format. Battery life is superb, easy to navigate, although the scrolling is a bit slow when you have lots of music on it. Very durable, and great sound quality. I am impressed that this sells for the small price that it does, because it is a much better deal than most other brands.

Just Simply o.k....,

This review is from: Philips SA31 2 GB Flash Video MP3 Player with FM Tuner and 1.8-Inch Screen (Black) (Electronics)
I bought myself an IPOD Nano (3rd Gen) for my birthday, and my 11 year old daughter just LOVED it! She has an mp3 player, but it's a very basic creative muvo. She really wanted something that she could put videos and photos on, like my IPOD. So I decided to get her the Philips for Christmas. I didn't want to shell out another $140 for another IPOD.
I looked for something in a lower price range and found this Philips. I was really on the fence about it, but went ahead and bought it. All in all it's just simply "o.k". My dd is only 11, so it has enough memory for her and holds enough songs. But the display is so very basic, it doesn't list the song and the artist at the same time (which is something I would have liked) - but , oh well. The photo resolution is great! All her pics look wonderful so that's a plus. The player says it's video capable -- my problem is I couldn't figure out where to get videos "from". Now I'm not exactly counting that as a design flaw, it may very well just be that I'm an idiot in that department. My dd made a video on her digital camcorder, and I tried using the included software (Philips Media Converter) to convert it and add it to her player. Didn't work. The software kept "telling" me that that type of file WAS the right kind to convert, it just wouldn't do it. I just kept getting a bunch of errors, so I gave up. I've looked through the manual and looked through the website trying to figure out "how" to put videos on there and where to get them from - but it is absolutely no help, everything just points you right back to the Philips Media Converter software (which clearly didn't work for me). So, I don't know ... When you are scrolling through your songs, it's actually quite slow. Sometimes you have to press a button more than once to get it to respond. To add a song to your playlist, you simply hit the "playlist" button - that's pretty easy, BUT you are limited to just one playlist. Overall, I give it a 3. I'd much prefer a 2 1/2 but that's not an option. When I read the description, I didn't realize it doesn't come w/ a wall charger (did it say that? Not sure, may just be me again) -- but it charges through a USB port in your computer. Not bad, not good, just is. I think it's way overpriced considering how un-user friendly it was, I'm irritated that I can't put video's on it (again, may be my own idiocy - but seriously - you'd think Philips would be prepared for that), and when you are going through the menu or functions it's entirely too slow. I should have just shelled out the extra $70 and got her an IPOD Nano, and just bought everything off of Itunes - at least then she'd have video. On the plus side, it seems rather durable, I'm not going to drop it or dump it in a cup of coffee to test that theory, you'll just have to take my word for it. Oh, and it does have a radio, that's a plus. Not many other pluses ... I'm trying to think of a few, but there just aren't any. If you're looking for a simple player to just hold your songs and only want one playlist - then perhaps this will work for you, but if you want something w/ a little more pizzaz and more worth your buck, then move on soldier, move on ...
