My old phillips mp3 player would play for at least double if not triple this thing.

Sound quality is awesome in a car, but the headphones only go to 16 dB.

I have bought 5 mp3 players from Philips:

1) SA1VBE08K/55
2) SA2CAM08K/37
3) SA3VBE08K/97
4) SA2ARA16K/55
5) SA5MXX04KF/37 (the one promoted here)

The SA1VBE08K/55 was the best one. I wish they did it again but with more capacity (like 16 GB or 32). But after 2 years the buttons didn't work well. So I started trying others from Philips (given it's one of the few with folders option)

I accidentally stepped over the SA2CAM08K/37 and wasn't repairable so I can't say anything about that one.

SA3VBE08K/97 had only one problem, the battery. It didn't last as much as promised and I had to charge it frequently.

SA2ARA16K/55 was almost the best but it had a problem with sound. When you're listening you lose sound for like half a second which is really, really, REALLY annoying. But it has great colors, capacity, battery life.

My last attempt to find a good Philips mp3 player was the SA5MXX04KF/37 the product advertised here. The main issue is the battery. It doesn't last as much as it's stated. When you fully charge it and take it from the USB it shows something like 90-95% (What? I only disconnected it from the PC) Then when you just change between songs the battery's icon changes. It has more charge, less charge, more charge, less charge...You don't know how much battery left you have! Also, as I stated, I like folder view. Well, for some bizarre reason, the order isn't alphabetical!!! I like the size and the design. Also the cost. But given it only has 4 GB of memory at least there should be an option to add a micro SD memory or something. Today there are pendrives of 32 or 64 GB smaller than this device so I know you can make something better or at least give the option to add memory. So, summarizing.

Very durable (dropped it like 20 times).

Could use just about any headphones (Unless you have some futuristic headphones)

Has a cool mic to record useful information.

Simple menu and a sensitive pause/play button.

Could also use the radio (If people still listen to the radio)

Battery life is superb

PROS: Easily transfers music from your computer to the USB by simple drag and drop. It plays my songs without any buffer/static even if the song has extreme bass or high notes. I've recently tried playing it in my car which has a stereo with a USB port and, like with the earphones, plays the bass and other notes very clearly so long that you download HQ songs. Its buttons are straightforward but I haven't tried the mic function, so I can't review that. It charges just by plugging it into any USB port. The clip it comes with is super convenient for those who exercise with music.

CONS: It doesn't pause the music when it gets unplugged from my stereo or from my earphones, which kills its batteries. Also, if I lock the MP3 for a period of time, it doesn't start up until I reset it using a needle or when I plug it into my computer.

TL;DR does what it needs to, amazing price for what it does do, easy to use.

Everything about this mp3 player is annoying. I wanted it to take it running with. the whole design is annoying to clip on my waist. While jogging if i try to change the song it often comes out of the clip. However it does play music well. Holds a charge. On loudness I'd give it a 3/5 because I often just max the volume since my nicer ear buds have a high impedance. My favorite SanDisk player died after a couple years of sweaty mistreatment, I'll probably keep this as backup and just buy another one of those.

Also worth noting, I recently accidentally sent this through the washing machine and let it sit for a day and it turned on just fine. I still wouldnt give this more than 3 star rating becuase of its other faults.

The screen is smaller then the previous model which came in various colors. The headphone jack doesn't work properly with aftermarket headphones, they only play out of one earphone. The headphones work fine in other devices. Also the cap that covers the USB plug does not have a tether, which means it will get lost easily.

max volume way to low to be herd over my pipes. the software will not load the song, had to resort to drag and drop and even then it won't play most formats

The organization of the songs is different from the 2011 version. I like that it has a clip for going to the gym (if you need a tether from the clip to the player, I tied a rubberband to the cap/clip from the headphone plug -works fine for me). Sound quality is awesome in a car, but the headphones only go to 16 dB.
