Simulates Dawn to Wake You Gradually

The official light therapy product of the National Sleep Foundation, the Wake-Up Light wakes you up by simulating sunrise. Light gradually increases for 30 minutes before your alarm time to gently prepare your body to wake up and feel more energetic at the start of your day.

When you turn off the alarm using the lever, the lamp stays on to give you the opportunity to get out of bed without switching on another lamp.

Philips Wake-Up Light feature
Choice of Three Natural Sounds or Radio

At your set wake-up time, you'll start to hear a natural sound or your selected FM radio station. These sounds start out quietly and take 90 seconds to reach your selected full volume level. There are three sounds you can choose from: morning birds, a beep sound, and wind chimes. A snooze button feature lets you enjoy nine more minutes of sleep before the sounds start again.

Choose Your Light Level for Natural Awakening

Because different people have different light sensitivities, the Wake-Up Light lets you select the light intensity that best suits your personal preferences. The intensity level can be set up to 250 lux. Higher settings typically correspond with shorter wake-up times, while lower settings may result in a more gradual wake-up process.

Fall Asleep with Diminishing Light and Sound

The Wake-Up Light can also help you wind down and drift off to sleep at bedtime. The dusk simulation feature works by gradually dimming the light and lowering the sound to help you drift to sleep.

Bedside Lamp with 20 Light Settings

The Wake-Up Light can be used as a bedside lamp for reading. The 20 different brightness settings allow you to choose a light intensity that's best for you. It has an easy-to-read digital display. Menu, select, and volume buttons are conveniently located underneath the time display.

Backed by Clinical Research

Independent research shows that 8 out of 10 Wake-Up Light users reported that the device made it easier to get out of bed. Additionally, 88 percent of users say the Wake-Up Light is better than their previous way of waking up. It has also been clinically proven that light wakes you up more pleasantly and improves the quality of waking up.

Recommended by National Sleep Foundation

The Wake-Up Light is recommended by the National Sleep Foundation, an educational and scientific nonprofit organization dedicated to improving sleep health and safety.

The Wake-Up Light is also completely safe to use on a daily basis and 100 percent UV free.

Product and Warranty Information

The light measures 9-9/10 inches high by 6-7/10 inches in diameter. It makes use of a replaceable 100-watt, 12-volt halogen lamp.

The Wake-Up Light is backed by a limited one year warranty.

Amazon Vine™ Review (What's this?)
This alarm clock/bedside lamp is truly wonderful. It is made well and has simple functions. The light in it creates this bright white light when turned on fully, or you can get softer, warmer glow by decreasing the power. I'm one of those sleepers who, if left alone, can sleep for 10 hours. It used to be that getting up early in the mornings was simply one of the worst parts of my day. However, this Philips light really makes getting up earlier So Much Easier because of it's bright light & 30-minute progression.

I've used these dawn-simulation alarms for 15 years. I've had a wide range of them, including BioBrite Sunrise Clock (two!), Verilux Lamp/Alarm clock (the worst), and an older Philip's model. The Philips is the brand I go to because of their quality, design and warranty. BioBrite and Verilux just couldn't compare.

This model offers a dusk simulation to help get you drowsy vs. that quicker shut off that leaves you blinking. I like that you can program how much time you prefer (15, 30, 45, 60 & 90 minutes).

Another great feature is the clock itself. I have a hard time sleeping in a room with any light. The Philips light gives you four options brightness, and their dim is seriously dim! Plus it's orange, which is the color that is the least bright in a dark room. They must have listened to the consumers when this feature was designed.

The one feature I *initally* didn't like about Philips' wake-up lights was the 30-minute light progression. I'd wished I'd been able to personalize it to, say, 15-minutes, or 5-minutes. However, after using this for a while, I understand that I wake up more easily (and energized) with that dawn progression's slowly building crescendo of bright light. Seriously, it works better at 30-minutes and I wake up so much easier. It's simply smarter.

It has 3 sounds to wake up to: bird chirps, a beep and wind chimes. Personally, the beep just brings back bad memories of my pre-dawn-simulation days, so I stick with the other two which are really pleasant.

I just want to wrap up with these few points:
* This has revolutionized waking up early for me, Philips is way better than other brands
* Easy, nearly genius, snooze and off switch (the stick on the side)
* Wonderful light you can use to set any mood in your room
* Replaceable halogen bulb
* Sleek design
* Easy to read by
* Enough options to satisfy, but not enough so you don't understand all your clock's functions
* 30-minute dawn simulation with bright light is energizing and unmatched

Hope this helps.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Way to Wake-Up November 9, 2011
This Hf3470 model has everything I need to wake-up in the morning. I used to have an alarm that sounds like R2D2 in the morning; it was cool, but I found myself hitting snooze 3-4 times before I actually got up. Plus the added darkness when I have to get up because I wake up before sunrise, I really did NOT want to get up.
This has been one of the most useful alarm clock I've ever had. I wake up with just the brightening light, even before the alarm goes off. And when the alarm finally goes off, it's birds chirping, so I'm not jolted awake. The bird chirps are very realistic. I was even confused this morning because there were real birds outside my window, and I thought I had forgotten to turn off my alarm! People complain about not being able to turn-off the light when they snooze. The light turning on in 9 minutes again would be too ajaring. If the point of this is to simulates a sunrise, you wouldn't be able to turn off the sun when you snooze.

PROs:
*Adjustable Brightness to wake-up to. I keep mine at 16 out of 20.
*Adjustable alarm volume so you can adjust to comfort.
*Easy on-off-snooze switch.
*Radio sounds are decent (but not enough to substitute for good sound system)

CONs:
*Price is steep--$90. I'd return immediately if you're unsure about the results.
*Only 3 sounds available for $90?? Bird chirps, Beeping, FM radio. Phillips, either let us add our own or put more on the clock!
Even the Hf3471 ($100) only comes with 1 extra sound--wind chimes (+dimmer function).
*It's pretty big, barely fits on my window ledge.
*No battery back-up.

TIPS
*Using this as a reading lamp will definitely shorten the life of the bulb.
*If you would like a dimmer function and more sounds, look at the Hf3471 and the HF3485
