DIVERSE & EASY TO USE,
By Willie (USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips HTS3151D/37 300 Watt DVD 5.1Surround Sound Home Theatre System with Ipod Dock (Electronics)
This theater unit is a good price/quality. It plays CD's, DVD's, KARAOKE CD's, and MP3/WMA music. This particular 300 watt model is for a smaller room, like a den, office or dorm. It was very easy to set up and easy to use. Overall, an efficient device. The remote is very easy to navigate, yet does not have a backlight. This is why it only gets four stars.

Ok Surround Sound System,
This review is from: Philips HTS3151D/37 300 Watt DVD 5.1Surround Sound Home Theatre System with Ipod Dock (Electronics)
I bought this system for my new 42 inch HDTV. At first I thought there was something wrong with the speakers but later I released the patchy sound I was hearing was due to an old set of red and white audio cables. After that I was in surround sound heaven. The sound quality is AWESOME and watching Black Hawk Down and Saving Private Ryan blew me out of my seat. I also play Xbox 360 and the specific 'Gaming' (how cool) setting in the equalizer makes my gaming experience 100 times better. Depending on if you are watching a DVD/TV or listening to music the equalizer gives you a range of options. My complaints are minor but frustrating non the less. You can tell the machine was made RIGHT when HD became available, it has only component video cables and does not have any digital audio (coaxial or optical) so you are stuck with standard red and white composite audio cables. Which means you don't get to experience high definition audio. The main middle speaker is just the same standard speaker and looks like the rest opposed to a double width ones on other systems. All around if you aren't a audiophile or have a standard def setup this system is SUPERB. Great price ad great quality.

Philips HTS3151D/37 300 Watt DVD 5.1Surround Sound Home Theatre System with Ipod Dock
This product was delivered to me with in 3 days , it's very easy to set up and it's all color coded , great sound for the price . I love the idea of an IPOD dock as there is no need for CDS , just dock and play and what's great is that you can flip through songs with the remote . I have have also hooked my XBOX to the system and I can now go on live and play in surround sound . I HIGHLY recommend this system to any one , for the features it comes with you could not have gotten a better buy for the price and it was shipped for FREE ! Thank you Amazon !

This is a good system to buy. You get a good value for the money you spent. This is good for small to mid size rooms. Also comes with IPOD dock and speakers are small enough.

Horrible! Does terrible with darks,

There are only three good things I can say about this system. 1: It has great base, 2: It has been pretty reliable, and 3: It is usually well priced. That's about it.
However, the picture on this unit sucks! It does OK with regular, normally lit scenes. However, if you're watching something that has a dark scene in it, the player automatically adjusts itself and dims WAY down to the point where you can barely see the image! Don't even try watching The Dark Knight or Watchmen on this thing. You'll just be pissed off the whole time. The only way to get around this feature, from what I can tell, is to brighten the screen to the point where almost everything has a blue tint to it because it's brighter than it should be and too over-adjusted. The player is very slow to load and slow to eject. Because it has such strong base, it overpowers the dialogue. I have to adjust the sound on almost everything I watch (and sound adjustment is very limited on this unit). Diagonal lines have recently appeared on the screen. I have sent the unit out for repairs through the retailer (I had an extended warranty) but I doubt they'll take care of most of these issues. PASS ON THIS P.O.S.!!

- I bought it as a sound system. It's great, it has 5 speakers and a sub-woofer.
- It's not very responsive when you ask it to do things, but it's no big deal. - USB port on the front, I play music off of a USB flash drive.

Design-wise, I like the low profile look of it and the speakers are non-obtrusive. Pretty easy to set up with my Polaroid flat screen TV. I'm not an expert in music quality or anything so I can't describe the 300 watt clarity but it sounds great in our small place. Pretty easy to capture the surround sound if the speakers are placed right. Enjoy the flexibility of the system with CD's DVD's, IPod, FM radio. System works great as far as all the media applications with two exceptions. 1) The IPod dock doesn't control the iPod very well. That is, the remote can pause it, play, FF , etc. but sometimes I find that the ipod has been playing through the night after I shut the thing down already. 2) The CD player - pretty basic element - doesn't advance to next song with any button on the remote. You have to let it play each song or go to next song by typing in 02 or 08 etc. Crazy I know, but maybe it's operator error. Otherwise, pretty happy with it considering how affordable it is.

This all-arround media player is a dream for the ecosystem. It has a decent power output while being incredibly power efficient. It puts out 300 watts but only takes in 60! 500% energy efficiency! Go green, baby!
