Well designed,

This review is from: Philips Hand Blender & Chopper - HR1358
I needed a hand blender to mix powdered drink mixes. After looking online and at stores, this one is the most bang for the buck! It comes with a "beaker" with metric and standard markings and a snap-on cover, a chopper, and a whisk. The chopper has a nonskid base so it won't slide around on the counter. Cleanup is easy, and it also comes with a plastic wall mount bracket. The only minuses are that it's heavy, but that's due to the heavy-duty motor. Also, the switch is a bit tricky to press, but that is probably a safety feature.

Too Heavy,

Every maker of hand mixers claims that theirs has "more power" than the competition. It's like some Tim Allen sketch. I bought this mixer to use the whisk attachment to keep sauces moving on the stove top. It is like using a sledgehammer to kill a fly. It feels like an electric drill. This is perfect if you just want to blend the hell out of something for a few seconds. You do not want to hold it in one hand for more than a few minutes, though. You have to dig your thumbnail into a rubber pad to keep it turning and it has a power cord that has been removed from all of the photos. The extra weight of the motor and awkward switch position soon become uncomfortable. I'm docking it a star on account of my sore arm.

A real joy to operate. I docked this a star because it weighs about as much as a battery operated hand drill, and the activation button is a bit of a challenge. Everything else about this, I love. A breeze to use, and a snap to clean, and even easier to operate. Using this handy blender, I feel like there is no food I cannot conquer.

This is a great blender for smaller jobs!i had been searching around for a hand blender for a while. the stainless shaft makes this one stand out. as it turns out, the stainless steel is so much easier to clean than plastic (it also looks sturdier.) i've had this blender for about a month now and just love how fast and easy it is to make milk shakes with it. the mixer and chopper are also very easy to use and clean like a breeze. it is certainly not as powerful as other fancier and more expensive ones but definitely does the job. i would really recommend this product if you are cooking for one or two people like i am.

excellent hand blender!,

I originally bought this hand blender for making soups and I absolutely love it. I read in one of those consumer review magazines that its heavier weight can be attributed to having a heavy duty motor... the gears are not cheap lightweight plastic, so it will last longer and can handle tougher jobs. Its length makes it easier to get down to the bottom of the stockpot when I'm making soup. The little chopper attachment is too small for large amounts of chopping (you should get a food processor) but I found it is prefect for making salsa, chopping basil and garlic for bruschetta, finely chopping onions for wontons, or chopping ingrediants for small meals. The wisk is a little more flexible than I would like, but it has worked fine for making cakes and whipped cream. I have had this for about a year now and I use it every other week and I have had no problems with it. The power button feels a little funny using at first (you have to press it inwards a bit), but that is a safety feature you get used to.Overall, I think this is a quality product and I would recommend it to anyone who wants to get into fancier soup making. I bought one for my mom for Christmas and she loves hers as well.

Works excellent. It is not too big nor too small. Has four speeds which are handy. Stainless cleans very well. The promo does not show a wonderful chopper that comes with it, and makes great baby food mush. Also a whisk. Has all you need from this kind of gadget.

Butrflynet was right; it is a health hazard. Yuck!,

I bought this mixer to quickly blend protein shakes with the main attachment. Wow, what a bad choice. Butrflynet sounded crazy when she was going on about chopping meat with it. How could a major company possibly let that happen. She had to be using it incorrectly. I mean, she was "blending meat", come on. And for the price, how could I go wrong. Well, even my protein drinks get sucked into the drive shaft assembly on this unit. I didn't notice it at first, but after a month or so, an icky brown, smelly fluid started leaking from the top of the assembly where it connects to the motor. I initially thought it was just some residual lubricant, or something. Then it started leaking or spitting out onto the handle, then out the bottom back into the drink. After rinsing the bottom, drying it, and sticking it in the drawer, I found small amounts of that dried brown stuff underneath when I'd take it out for the next use. So it looks like the drive assembly of the main attachment sucks whatever you're blending up and then leaks it out later. So there's month old putrefied protein shake leaking into my fresh drinks, getting all over the handle, and stinking up my kitchen. I'm going to contact Phillips about this downright defective and unhealthy product.

I love everything about this blender. I've used every attachment more times than I care to count, and I'm thinking about buying a second one just for the extra attachments - because I use them so often they always seem to be dirty!I make lotions and soaps, and a hand blender is indispensable. There are tons of hand blenders out there, but very few have a detachable blender attachment and even fewer are stainless steel. These are both very important features to me - I need to be able to run them through the dishwasher and to sterilize them. I also like that the attachments themselves come apart in more than one way - for instance the plastic part of the blender pulls apart from the stainless part - which makes them even easier to get clean. It is also quite powerful. I admit I've never even attempted to use it any higher than speed 2 (it has 4) and that speed is quite fast. I would imagine that the higher speeds should only be used for short bursts - prolonged use would likely burn out even the stoutest motor. I highly and thoroughly recommend this product to anyone. As a "power user" of it I have put it through heck, and it performs like a champ.

Great tool for the right job,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips Hand Blender & Chopper - HR1358
This blender works great for pureeing soups in the pot, beating eggs, grinding breadcrumbs and mincing vegetables (like onions and garlic). I'm quite surprised someone tried to use it to chop meat for a stir fry. Does anyone try to chop meat in a regular blender? Would anyone want stir fry made with meat paste? Ewww. A knife will always be the best tool for slicing meat -- either that, or a kindly butcher. As long as this tool is used for jobs it's designed for, it's a great choice.

I just love this blender, use it every day. It's easy to clean, the metal shaft does not stain, love the cup and chopper.
