1.0 out of 5 stars Totally Worthless, November 29, 2008
This review is from: Philips Landscape Lighting 10-Watt 12-Volt G4 Base T3 2 Pack (Tools & Home Improvement)
A year ago, I bought a Malibu 12v landscape lighting system that used the g4 t3 10 watt halogen lights. The only replacements you can get are these Philips lamps. And REPLACEMENTS they are. The root word "replace" really applies because that is all I do. These things burn out constantly and sometimes the same day they are installed. I use the precautions for these type of bulbs which is to not get oil from hands on them and be gentle with the leads. You can spend lots of bucks a year on these replacement lamps not to mention the difficulty in getting to the fixtures, being they are landscape lights and usually hard to get to. Two words the landscape lighting industry better learn: LONG LIFE! I have let my lights go. I have been searching for LED's as direct replacements for these and there are none that will fit a g4 socket in the space allocated for t3 size. I am going to make my own. If they work, I may decide to make them for all of you out there with the same problem, so Philips can drop this sorry product.

Been using these for about 6 years now. Depending on the type of transformer you're using, will affect the life of the bulb. I have one transformer that flickers on and off at dusk and dawn and it shortens the bulb life considerable. I also have a second transformer that is a strictly on/off type and the bulbs last a lot longer. I get about a year of each bulb, give or take a bit. So it breaks down to about $2/bulb per year.

Phillips has just come out with a G4 base T3 bulb that is a LED replacement. Tried one and although it's bigger than the regular buld and cost is still 10 times more than these bulbs, I think I might be replacing them for the long term savings.

Phillips seems to be the only maker of these bulbs, so options are limited when it comes to a G4T3 setup.

4.0 out of 5 stars Expensive but works, September 16, 2010

I find these bulbs last 9 months, maybe a year. They're rated at 2,000 hours and stay on dusk to dawn. So I feel like they meet expectations. But at 2 bucks a bulb, for what looks like it should be about 25 cents, seems pricey. However, try and find a similar bulb cheaper that is better. This is pretty much your standard bulb. The color is also a nice incandescent shade and looks good on trees at night.
