Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

These Philips PC multimedia speakers offer a unique twist on traditional computer speakers by including an LCD clock and FM radio, letting them function independently of a computer for standalone use. Listeners can thus choose to connect the speakers to their PC jukebox or a distinct portable audio player, or they can use the system as a clock radio for the nightstand. The 6-watt bass reflex system (3 watts x 2) employs a 3-inch full range driver in each speaker to deliver a frequency response of 120 Hz to 20 kHz and surprisingly robust bass for its class. Listeners can even listen privately to the radio thanks to the 3.5 mm headphone jack. The system also includes easy-to-use power and volume controls located on top of one speaker.

What's in the Box
Two speakers with clock and FM radio, 1.3-meter audio cable, user's manual.

Product Description

The Philips MMS223 speakers feature an FM radio and integrated, stylish LCD clock. These speakers can be used with or without a PC and are magnetically shielded to prevent distortion of a monitor. Easy controls for power and volume are located on the top of one of the speakers.

Juet letting everyone who is considering to buy it, don't be fooled by the picture! The speakers appear to be blue on the picture, but they are actually dark-silverish-black in reality.

These speakers are good if your PC doesn't have any or if you don't care much about sound, since it does make up with the FM radio feature and a nifty LCD clock on the other speaker. However, if you are looking for the next-generation, great sounding speakers, you might want to look elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, it does sound good, but not GREAT. Another lacking feature is the taht it doesn't have the AM stations, only FM. The fact that you can use these without the PC sounds good, but these days, you might rarely need it.

Bottom Line: Need speakers? This is a good bargain. Looking for those something-special speakers? You might look somewhere else.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very good speakers - great price!, December 20, 2004
This review is from: Philips MMS223/17 PC Multimedia Speakers with LCD Clock and FM Radio (Electronics)
When I first saw these speakers I thought it was a little silly to have an FM radio built-in but now that I have them I find myself using them all the time. The cool thing is that I can be listening to the radio and the sounds of my PC still come in over the music. The LCD clock just looks kinda cool too. These speakers are plenty powerful for my office. I've never been able to turn them up all the way but I like how they sound. At $19.99 it's hard to go wrong. I just bought a few more pairs as Christmas gifts. I recommend you give them a listen.

3.0 out of 5 stars Just your average pair of cheap PC speakers, June 7, 2005
This review is from: Philips MMS223/17 PC Multimedia Speakers with LCD Clock and FM Radio (Electronics)
These speakers are fine for low fidelity purposes such as playing PC games or watching DVD's. They do not have sufficient fidelity for much beyond that. MP3s and CD's will sound light years better on any set of $10 headphones so do not expect to replace your stereo.

Regarding the extra features: the built in system clock is is too small with no backlighting to be clearly visible from more than 12 inches away. The FM radio is useless as there is no separate antenna wire. $15 for these speakers are on the high-end of what they are worth.
