Average Sound and Some Good Extras,

This review is from: Philips MMS223/17 PC Multimedia Speakers with LCD Clock and FM Radio (Electronics)
Juet letting everyone who is considering to buy it, don't be fooled by the picture! The speakers appear to be blue on the picture, but they are actually dark-silverish-black in reality.
These speakers are good if your PC doesn't have any or if you don't care much about sound, since it does make up with the FM radio feature and a nifty LCD clock on the other speaker. However, if you are looking for the next-generation, great sounding speakers, you might want to look elsewhere. Don't get me wrong, it does sound good, but not GREAT. Another lacking feature is the taht it doesn't have the AM stations, only FM. The fact that you can use these without the PC sounds good, but these days, you might rarely need it. Bottom Line: Need speakers? This is a good bargain. Looking for those something-special speakers? You might look somewhere else.

When I first saw these speakers I thought it was a little silly to have an FM radio built-in but now that I have them I find myself using them all the time. The cool thing is that I can be listening to the radio and the sounds of my PC still come in over the music. The LCD clock just looks kinda cool too. These speakers are plenty powerful for my office. I've never been able to turn them up all the way but I like how they sound. At $19.99 it's hard to go wrong. I just bought a few more pairs as Christmas gifts. I recommend you give them a listen.

Just your average pair of cheap PC speakers,

These speakers are fine for low fidelity purposes such as playing PC games or watching DVD's. They do not have sufficient fidelity for much beyond that. MP3s and CD's will sound light years better on any set of $10 headphones so do not expect to replace your stereo.
Regarding the extra features: the built in system clock is is too small with no backlighting to be clearly visible from more than 12 inches away. The FM radio is useless as there is no separate antenna wire. $15 for these speakers are on the high-end of what they are worth.

A blend of features without much consideration,

I was looking for replacement speakers two weeks ago when I saw this product. It seemed attractive to me - cool shape, list of features, low price, and two 5-star reviews. "Why not" I said to myself. So I bought it.
I was excited when I got the package, and was immediately disappointed when I turned on the radio: the reception was terrible - even my tiny radio bought 10 years ago has better reception. The tuning is mechanical, which drifts away into noise within 30 seconds, makes me wondering if I'm working for SETI, and listening to noise is my duty. Philips, how much more will it cost you to add a digital tuning button to the box? 10 bucks? Fine, put it on and I'm willing to pay for that. The fun part was when I turned on my computer while trying to find ET with my poor ears. All of a sudden I thought I find it! And ET was also using Windows! Almost gave me a heart attack, but luckily I found it's just my own computer playing behind the noise. Philips, how much more will it cost you to mute computer input when the radio is on? 10 bucks? Fine, add it on and I'm willing to pay for that. Frankly speaking, I like the speakers, but not really like the radio, and I don't want to let the LCD clock tell me what time it is - without backlight that little dude is not gonna tell me anything unless I stare really hard into his face. Can't wait for the warranty to expire, so that I can open it up - Adding a digital tuning might take some time, but switch off computer input when radio is on, and add a LED backlight for the LCD clock won't take me more than an hour, even though it is soooooooo hard for Philips engineers.

Good sound, good reception on the radio but I never pay any attention to the clock. The radio dial is a little quirky, I think, but overall, a good value.

I like the speakers very much. sound quality is great, they look nice too. It just exceeds my expectation... ofcourse i didnt expect a home theatre, surround sound for $10. perfect for any office or cubicle. has just about everything i need.
the only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 is that the radio tuning is a little hard, after getting used to digital tuning in cars and music systems at home. but thats just me. hope this helps.

I was looking for a set of speakers that had good sound quality. The radio and clock were not deciding factors. I found the speakers to be acceptable and based upon the low price, believe I got a great deal. Would recommend.

Reasonable Sound, Bad Quality,
This review is from: Philips MMS223/17 PC Multimedia Speakers with LCD Clock and FM Radio (Electronics)
Even though this speakers don't sound awful, the only rating that I feel is appropriate is 2 stars --- the speakers are not durable, the piece of plastic that contains the radio dial came off mine.
The LCD clock sounds like a cute idea, but I would guess most people use these speakers next to a computer, which usually displays a clock already. The radio reception is not very good indoors (as could be expected), which makes all the extras these speakers seem to offer rather useless. I've tried several cheap computer speakers, and these are definitely not among the better ones. For good cheap computer speakers check out the Creative SBS260 Speakers (ASIN B0002V9IKK). The sound quality of these is amazing considering the price.
