Video features include picture zoom, multi-angle viewing, and parental lock. The system's 80-watts-per-channel receiver (with 100 watts driving the system's 8-inch passive subwoofer) delivers a total of 500 watts, and its Class D amplifier was designed with special attention to the extreme dynamics possible in DVD movie presentations. A Class D Amplifier is a "switching" amplifier that converts a low-level, analog, audio input signal into a high power, digital output for enhanced digital sound quality.
The MX6050D's four 2-way satellite speakers and center-channel speaker are acoustically designed to match the tonal characteristics of the receiver. Front left, right, and center speakers are magnetically shielded to prevent any interference with your TV's image. The sixth speaker is a passive subwoofer with a twin-port bass tube that enhances the speaker's delivery by letting it move more air at carefully tuned frequencies. The tuner offers 40 FM/AM presets.
The receiver features 2 analog-audio inputs and one analog-audio output, along with a coaxial digital-audio output (great for exporting audio to a CD or minidisc recorder). Three video outputs (including the primary monitor output) accommodate a range of televisions, from sets with standard composite-video terminals to sets offering high-resolution component-video inputs.
Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the MX6050D is equipped to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.
Philips's Cinema Center Speaker magnifies your movies while ensuring that what you hear is both natural and realistic. Cinema Center Speaker delivers spacious sound and brings a wider sweet spot through no less than 5 drivers positioned at different angles. These drivers give more depth in sound by clearly distinguishing front from background sound and action from dialogue so even the slightest sound detail will not pass by unnoticed.
Color-coded connectors provide a simple and user-friendly way to connect the speakers and subwoofer to the center unit of the home entertainment system simply by plugging the connectors in the matching colored-interface at the rear of the center unit.
What's in the Box
DVD player/integrated surround amplifier, 5 satellite speakers, a passive subwoofer (powered by DVD/amplifier unit), a remote control, remote batteries, a user's manual, an FM wire antenna, an AM loop antenna, speaker brackets and screws, all requisite cabling.

500 Watts really?,
By igno "igno" (San Antonio, Texas United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips MX6050D DVD Home Theater with 500 Watts Total System Power (Electronics)
Overall a decent "beginner" unit, however don't leave your unit on all the time like I used to. I had to replace one of the fans inside because it started making noise after about a year of "normal" use. I don't like how the volume goes off completely when adjusting it quickly and the remote control button layout is absolutely horrible. It is loud for the size of the components however I have heard way better and louder units that are under 500 watts. Doesn't have 6 speaker stereo without the 5.1 like other similar systems of its time. The system is also really slow to load cds, mp3 cds and dvds and it is also too slow to change between tv/aux/dvd/radio modes. Would I recommend this unit to a friend? NO. Would I ever buy another Philips dvd player or home theater system? Very Doubtful. Would I ever buy another Philips product at all? Only with great hesitation and after researching and testing the product before buying it.

Philips Customer Relations is the WORST!,
This review is from: Philips MX6050D DVD Home Theater with 500 Watts Total System Power (Electronics)
First of all, this is the first product review I've ever posted online- but the customer service I've received from Philips is SO bad, they deserve a horrible review. I THOUGHT Philips was a reliable name, but based on the service I have received concerning a mechanical flaw with my unit, I will never buy from them again.God help you if you have any problems or defects with this product- because Philips certainly won't. Rather than simply replace it or repair it themselves, they insisted that I send mine to an "authorized service center." To make a long and incredibly frustrating story short, six weeks later I've finally got it back, unrepaired. So now my case is "under review" with Philips- who apparently may now decide I have to send it back to the same service center again?! For all the hassles I've been through already, I can't believe they won't simply replace this unit- or at LEAST repair it THEMSELVES.
