This is all you need!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Philips MX990D DVD Home Theater System (Electronics)
Get this audio system for your Television and you have instant home theatre! It comes with a high quality DVD Player and a subwoofer so you have everything you need for a home theatre system. It is extremely easy to hook up. Three of the speakers have screw terminals which are a much better connection. At 550 watts it is really powerful. This is a great value!

S-Video?,

I love this system, but have been unable to get S-Video inputs to work. The docs are VERY skimpy, with the only mention of S-Video being something like "Or, use S-Video Connections for better performance".This may be because my Monitor doesn't have an S-Video in, but I can't find any way to confirm this. Other than that, the sound quality is execellent, and the features are relatively easy to use and setup.

I had another Philips DVD which skipped. I trusted it was a fluke. NOT! This Philips DVD player skips. The Home theatre would be nice if all the speakers worked. The tweeters only PRETEND to work. The instructions were written by Japanese School Children. I plowed through and managed to hook up the lousy DVD player in about eight hours. Unbelievable that I thought I could buy a Home system for under ... which would work. How could I be so dumb. On a good note, the unit was delivered safely wrapped in ten pounds of bubble wrap, and quickly. Guess they couldn't get rid of them fast enough.
