4.0 out of 5 stars Norelco 1060 vs. Braun 9595
I purchased both the Norelco 1060 and the Braun 9595. While I kept the Braun since it shaves a bit closer, I preferred the Norelco based on how it felt in my hand and on my face. I went back and forth for a few weeks between keeping the Norelco vs. the Braun. The deciding factors were the lithium ion battery in the Braun and the fact I am an ex-pat living close to Braun...

1.0 out of 5 stars Don't buy this razor
The Norelco Arcitec 1060X doesn't shave very closely. Even after three or four passes over your face, you won't come close to a shave with a regular razor. It doesn't cut the fine hairs on my face at all. The trimmer is located so close to the shaving heads that you can't use it. You have to lift each of the three heads to clean the razor, then push all three heads down...

It doesn't cut the fine hairs on my face at all. The trimmer is located so close to the shaving heads that you can't use it. You have to lift each of the three heads to clean the razor, then push all three heads down again. The razor makes a lot of noise while on. I paid premium dollars for this razor, and although it looks very stylish, it performs so poorly that it's the worst electronic purchase I've ever made. Buy any razor but this one.

2.0 out of 5 stars I really wanted to like this shaver, December 19, 2009
This review is from: Philips Norelco 1060 Arcitec Rechargeable Cordless Tripleheader Electric Razor (Health and Beauty)
It's one of the coolest electric razors I've seen. I couldn't wait to get this one. I love Norelco's products. I bought this shaver and tried it for a couple of weeks and found it delivers a really harsh uncomfortable shave with lots of razor burn which I never got from my other Norelco. I think one reason for the harsh shave is that it doesn't have the floating heads anymore that easily give to the contours of your face, this seems to plow into curves instead and you also don't get the range of pivoting that the previous models have (I noticed this didn't surround my Adams Apple like my 9160XL does it sits flat on it). It gives a decent shave but not a great shave like I was hoping and you have to go over areas many times. I think who ever designed this razor just went for how sleek and cool they could make it look and the function came second. You can get as good of shave with a 8140XL SpeedXL which has the same cutting head technology and gain the comfort and save $120. It just won't look as cool on your counter. I've sent mine back and I thought I'd try a Braun Pulsonic 9595 and it's the best shaver I've ever owned. Sorry Norelco but when I spend $200 dollars I just don't want something that looks good I want it improved too.

I went back and forth for a few weeks between keeping the Norelco vs. the Braun. The deciding factors were the lithium ion battery in the Braun and the fact I am an ex-pat living close to Braun in Germany which will facilitate resolving any future service issues. With respect to the lithium ion battery, I do not worry about fully discharging the Braun before a recharge as with the Norelco. Having said this, either razor would be a fine choice.

1.0 out of 5 stars Form over Function, February 22, 2010
By
This review is from: Philips Norelco 1060 Arcitec Rechargeable Cordless Tripleheader Electric Razor (Health and Beauty)
I have been a Norelco electric razor user/buyer my entire adult life and usually buy a new one every couple years just because I like getting the newer models. When I saw the Arcitec I was excited to see a new look to the standard electric razor. I was so disappointed with this razor. It didn't shave close enough and it just wouldn't get some of my hairs off my face and neck. I sometimes had to pull the old Norelco 8170XL out to do a quick swipe to get those stray hairs the Arcitec refused to cut. The hair receptacles underneath the razors are so shallow that on one shave they get full and small hair particles vibrate out and make a mess. The trimmer was useless and because of the form of the razor, very hard to use with accuracy and didn't trim well at all. Philips certainly chose form over function with this razor. I was so disappointed I returned the razor and went back to using my trusty Norelco 8170XL. Don't get sucked in by the looks of this one. Go for the more traditional models that Norelco makes.

This review is from: Philips Norelco 1060 Arcitec Rechargeable Cordless Tripleheader Electric Razor (Health and Beauty)
I've never used any electric razor except Norelco, but this is the third model that I've owned. The head is solid, even if the picture makes it look fragile. The trimmings are gathered under the heads, where the space is so limited that cleaning is required every couple of days. But cleaning is very simple, so this isn't much of a downside. I don't think the shave is quite as close as my old 9160 model, but it's good, and quite acceptable for electric standards.

I recently had reason to call Norelco's customer service. The help was fantastic, and if every company had customer service like this, the world would be a better place.

2.0 out of 5 stars Arcitec 1060X fails to meet the need, August 28, 2009
This review is from: Philips Norelco 1060 Arcitec Rechargeable Cordless Tripleheader Electric Razor (Health and Beauty)
The Norelco 1060X does an OK job if... you shave every day and if... you have baby hair. I am retired and do not have to shave every day. If I go one day without shaving the 1060x Arcitec will not cut my stubble with out spending at least 10 minutes and even then there will be many hairs not touched. I think they tested this thing on 12 year olds or a hairless species. Let your shaving go 4 days and FORGET IT! This razor will not even touch the long hairs. Try to use the trimmer to get them short - forget that. The trimmer is badly placed and will not cut the hairs short enough for the shaver to finish the job. So now, if I miss a day, I have to get out my old Rotatrack 950. It shaves that old stubble right off. I suggest you do not buy the 1060X or any new Philips Norelco that uses the same shaving head. I am going to try a different brand soon - or buy another 950 RX if I can find one.

5.0 out of 5 stars BEST SHAVER EVER - Philips/Norelco arcitec 1060X, July 5, 2009

I've been using Norelco shavers for over 40 years, since my Dad insisted I loose that foil shaver I had and use the kind he did. I still have an older SmartTouchXL (9160) that shaves perfectly well, and I've recently tried the newer 7810XL which is also faultless.

But my latest and greatest one is the new arcitec 1060X. This shaver is absolutely the last word in perfect shaves. The independent motion of the three heads cup all the difficult nooks and crannies and provide the closest and quickest shave I've ever had. The independent heads are also quick to clean with tap water, and the "open" design results in a more thorough cleaning. After rinsing, my brush has nothing to do.

Thank you Philips/Norelco for this terrific new product!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Norelco I have Ever Owned!, October 20, 2011
This review is from: Philips Norelco 1060 Arcitec Rechargeable Cordless Tripleheader Electric Razor (Health and Beauty)
The Norelco 1060X shaver is the best I have ever owned. I have been using Norelco shavers for 30 years and this one is a winner! It gives me a close and comfortable shave everytime. Cleaning is a breeze. Flip open the razor heads and rinse under hot tap water or you can use the incuded brush and brush out the wiskers. Mine came with the charging stand and protective travel case that doubles as a charging station. I like it so much, I just ordered the Jet Clean cleaning system. The trimmer does okay, could be bigger. I really have nothing bad to say about this razor. Treat yourself and buy one and if your don't like it, you have 45 days to return it to the manufacture for a full refund. I bought mine on Ebay for a great price! Registered my Norelco on their website and they extened my warranty another 5 months to 2.5 years instead of 2 and plus they gave me 15% off and free shipping on my next purchase from the Norelco store on their website. Remember to follow the directions and condition your face to the razor. You may not get a close shave the first few times you use the razor. Just keep using it and as your face is condtioned you will start getting close shaves. My shaves are better than the old fashion shave cream and razor blade. Use a pre-shave loation, this will help you condition your face and help prevent razor burn. Can't beat the Norelco 1060X.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is the worst rotary razor I have ever used, May 14, 2011

I love my old Norelco, so when I saw that this wonderful looking razor only got 3 stars, I figured, how bad could it really be. Well, I'm absolutely suffering with this. Yes, it looks cool and if it would have done a half decent job of shaving I would have decided to stick with it, but as it turns out, I'm stuck with it. This razor has two major flaws. First, it doesn't cut. You'll find yourself shaving over the same section on your face time and time again. It seems as if there are Bermuda Triangle area's of your face that this razor never seems to be able to trim, but the worst area is the neck. It for some reason becomes untouchable. Second, it really doesn't hold that much hair, so the blades need to be constantly cleaned. I understand that it's because it's a tight design, but none the less, you'll get annoyed with it.

That being said, I struggle to give it one star because it really looks cool and when you're shaving the razor seems to hug around your face as though it were actually doing something, but the reality is, that you'll need to finish the job with a straight razor every time. I've used old Norelco's and have fallen completely in love with them, but this razor is just too frustrating to deal with. Looking at the other reviews here, it makes sense and if you do get this razor, I wish you the best of luck. I seriously do, because I'd never with the frustration I went through on anyone else.

1.0 out of 5 stars Poor Expensive Razor, April 28, 2010

Just doesn't get all the fine hairs, requires clean up with razor. Small trimmings storage capacity requires almost daily cleaning. Large bumpers around cutting disks make it difficult to get close to nose. Poorly placed trimmer is useless for anything but sideburns.
