good basic shaver,
By
This review is from: Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System (Health and Beauty)
The 6423LC shaves closer than my 10-year-old Norelco/Philishave, (also corded -- I find the cordless models have insufficient power) even when both have brand-new heads. And it irritates my skin less, except when my beard is several days long: the 6423LC lacks an adjustable closeness setting that would let you set it less close to avoid irritating your skin too much on those days. But for those of you who shave every day or two this is a good choice.

Wake up to the sound of a clean, close shave.,
By Joseph Ekaitis "author of Collinsfort Village" (Southern California) - See all my reviews (REAL NAME)
This review is from: Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System (Health and Beauty)
I was shopping for replacement cutters and combs for a Norelco Micro Action (formerly Lift & Cut [formerly Rotatract]) shaver and noticed that for less than $10 more I could have a whole new Norelco shaver. I was sold.
Norelco Reflex Plus shavers combine 4 features pioneered by Norelco and improved over time. Rotary heads reduce the vibration common to reciprocating shavers. Floating heads individually hug the skin. Lift and Cut blades gently pull whiskers into the cutter for a closer shave. Everything rides on a set of pivoting platforms that bulge slightly at the center of the head assembly. The bulge allows the heads to maintain contact with the contours of difficult to shave spots like the concave hollows of the neck below the chin. I've been a Norelco man from my first crop of peachfuzz to my current orchard of gray quills, so the first shave wasn't a surprise for my skin. It was as close and comfy as I'd expect from a Norelco. The real revelation was the sound. The previous Lift and Cut was like shaving with a Black & Decker DustBuster. The Reflex Plus is so quiet, you can actually hear the cutters slice off the whiskers and then fall silent on the next pass over the same area. This is a real help for those times when a mirror isn't nearby. You could actually shave by the sound alone! A somewhat poignant note: Models at the economy end of the Norelco line are now made in China and lack carrying bags of any kind. When I travel, I roll my shaver in an article of clothing, usually a T-shirt, so the carrying case is no biggie. Still, I miss seeing the words "MADE IN HOLLAND" on the bottom of every Norelco I've owned. Times may change but at least the quality of the shave has only improved.

The first thing I noticed about this shaver is that it weighs half of the 10 year old rechargable Norelco 300SX it replaced, due to it not having batteries inside. Also, this shaver is much quieter and is less irritating to my sensitive skin than the old shaver.

Terrific Basic Shaver!,

My previous corded shaver was a 10-year-old basic Norelco on which I'd replaced the cutting heads probably three times. It served me well until it bit the dust. I wouldn't have anything but a Norelco so I got this one from Amazon at a great price. I didn't think it could shave better than the old model, but it really, really does. I can't see the added cost of getting a rechargable model. Corded works for me (and I suppose the vast majority of people.) I highly recommend this Norelco shaver!

Well!
This unit replaced a perhaps 8 or 10 year old Norelco razor that I hadn't changed the blades on ever. Compared to my old Norelco, this one is much much quieter. It's almost silent. The heads can pivot, as well as be "pushed in". After the second shave, I found that the shave was very smooth, and the shaver is so flexible in it's "floating heads" design that I barely felt as if I was shaving hair at all. There's nothing shoddy or yesterday about this razor...I will use this candy blue Norelco for years to come.

Great basic Electric Razor,
By
This review is from: Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System (Health and Beauty)
I have been a Norelco Electric Razor user for about fifteen years. In fact this new one just replaced my original. When I first received it one month ago I was immediatly skeptical because it said Made in China. My original norelco was made in Holland as was all Norelcos. After using it every day for a month, needless to say, I won't need to pull my old one back out. I'm impressed with how comfortable and easily it takes off my whiskers. The floating head is truly a floating head, not just the blades like my older model. It gets close around my nose and mouth, and there is no irritated skin left behind. If you have never used an electric, give it a try for at least a couple weeks before giving up. It will take that long for your skin to adjust. Don't bear down, but just let the razor do the work, and I'm sure you will enjoy the results. Norelco is easy on the skin. JB

Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus shaver,

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System (Health and Beauty)
Delivers basically what it promises - shaves a face (some razors don't deliver on their promises).
Good points: [1] good price; [2] no battery to have to keep charging. Bad points: [1] slow - I anticipated faster-revolving cutters, but it gets there if you keep at it; [2] not a very close shave, but then (from previous experience) I didn't expect it from this Norelco design.

I have been using manual razors all my life, and will (probably) continue as such. I bought my first electric razor, a cheap basic Remington 2-3 years ago, for out of town vacation trips convenience. The Remington still works, but is somewhat disappointing, and one of these days will get thrown away. I purchased the Norelco 6423 recently, before a trip to Italy, due to its dual voltage. What a difference compared to the Remington. The Norelco is extremely quiet and shaves very close. I am thick haired and do not have a sensitive skin. The Norelco does as great a job on the neck as on the face, and no irritation whatsoever. The trimmer is also just fine. It has been a very pleasant surprise (from Remington), and I am not sure what the more expensive models do to justify the higher price tag. I would definitely recommend it for anyone looking to try an electric shaver, and would purchase it again. The only reason I held off the 5th star: Force of habit and comfort zone for many years with manual razors, which still give the closest (and fastest) shave.

Great For The Price - So What If It Has A Cord,
By CD Junkie (Dayton, MN United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System (Health and Beauty)
I have been using these corded Norelcos for years. I buy a new one every so often because it's almost as cheap as the replacement blades. I have tried the more expensive cordless models but the results were the same. I have also tried foil shavers, but they are terrible for me. Fortunately I have electricity in my bathroom (I must be one of the lucky few, judging from the number of corded models available) and I actually like the fact that I don't have to mess with recharging or dead batteries (don't they always seem to die when you need them the most?). Shaving in the car also holds no appeal. So... if you want a decent electric razor for a great price: this is it.

NOT YOUR "OLD DUTCH" NORELCO,
By
This review is from: Philips Norelco 6423LC Reflex Plus Corded Men's Shaving System (Health and Beauty)
I've used Norelcos for over 30 years. This latest version comes from China, with questionable implications as to quality and conditions of manufacture.
Extremely light and quiet, it feels more like a woman's shaver. Therefore, it may not be suitable for men with heavy beards who are not accustomed to electric razors. Older Norelcos were solid, well made and came with solid cases; this model has no case at all, making careful handling essential. Considering this shaver's apparent fragility, if you ever drop it you'll need a new one. Norelco switches have always been erratic, so leave the switch turned on and unplug the shaver to turn it off. For the moment it does a good enough job, even without a closeness control. Its best feature is a full-sized trimmer, which works well. If today's lower quality standards for small appliances don't bother you, you may find this shaver perfectly acceptable but it is not built to last as long as its predecessors. UPDATE (11/07) - Well, this fragile shaver is still going strong - of course, I've managed not to drop it! No complaints, and the price has gone down a third since I bought it. Definitely the best shaver one can get at this price. |
