I agree..., January 10, 2003

I agree with the other user... This unit works really well, Acu-Control really does work. However, the stand is not a charging stand, but a storage stand. The charging plug is on the bottom of the unit, you will have to lay it down flat while charging--not a very smart design if you ask me. The storage stand can't take the unit if it's plugged in. But everything else is great...

so-so product...poor customer service, May 16, 2003

I had problems with this product from day one. While it offers many features at a very reasonable price, it really didn't work well and I ended up returning it.
I purchased it mainly for trimming sideburns and neck. This is one of the few trimmers on the market that feature this ability. Most other trimmers are specifically designed for mustache/beard trimming.
After following the manufacturer's instructions for charging, I used it to trim my sideburns and neck. I figured while I was at it, I might as well try out the nose/ear trimming attachment. After just about a minute of using this attachment, the unit came to a grinding hault--like the battery had already run down--and it was not due to excess nose hair! I switched the attachment back to the regular trimming attachment and it worked just fine. I thought it may just be a fluke, so I switched it back and had the same result--with the ear/nose attachement, the unit stopped after about 45 seconds.
I went online and did a customer service "chat"...After chatting with a rep and explaining the problem, the rep told me they had no idea as to the problem and that I should take it to a authorized Norelco service center. Personally, I found this an unacceptable response. I shouldn't have to take a brand new product to service center two days after I bought it. So, I returned it. The hassle wasn't worth it.
As other reviewers have mentioned, charging the unit is awkward. It would have been much better if the storage stand could have been designed to allow the unit to be charged while in the stand. Even if this meant having a slot for the cord to go through the stand to the unit while it is in the stand. But, for such an inexpensive item, I guess we can't have too many complaints about things like that.
My main concern is that the unit should function as advertised--no matter what the price.
I wouldn't recommend this product, but currently don't have an alternative to recommend. I read the reviews here at amazon.com prior to making my purchase and decided on this model based on the comments on this and comparable models. There just doesn't seem to be a good trimmer like this on the market right now.

This product does it all... it can be used for keeping hair looking neat and trimmed almost anywhere on your body. I don't consider the fact that the stand does not act as a charger a flaw by any means. Look at what price you're paying - Norelco obviously was keeping the cost down by not adding this feature, so if you bought it and liked the price, then don't complain. The attachments (trimming combs, ear/nose trimmer) all work well and are great features.
