A common issue with these types of audio cassette adapters involves cassette decks with Auto Reverse that can't be turned off. Some just won't work in them. This particular model is the latest and only one shown at the Philips website. Philips does not state whether this model will work in auto reverse cassettes. It just says that this model MAY NOT work properly in auto reverse cassettes. In addition, the back of the package says that it's not recommended for use in vehicles with AC Delco radios.

But this model is rated among the best so I just had to give it a try.

I can report that this SPECIFIC model works GREAT in my 1999 Pontiac Firebird factory stereo auto reverse cassette deck. And the auto-reverse cannot be turned off. GM never even offered a CD player for the 1999 generation of Firebirds. But pop this baby in with an MP3 player and who needs Tapes or CD's??

I can't certify that this adapter will work in all or most auto-reverse cassettes or those from AC Delco. But you might want to give it a try. I'm glad I did.

I've bought around 10 different cassette adapters in my life. This one is by far the best sound quality. I've had to re-balance my ipod to adjust to it's strong bass and clear treble. I bought another for my girlfriend and she loves it.

I bought an older (1995) model volvo with the original radio/cassette player intact. It's in great shape, good speakers, so I felt reluctant to install a new CD player, as I like that that this car is intact with all the original accessories. I'm a purist. Someone told me about getting a MP3/CD cassette adaptor, and it sounded promising. I did research, discovered that Philips makes a good product in this regard. I bought mine for short money at a local big box discount store. It was so easy. Popped the cassette in, and hooked up my iPod shuffle, and lovely, clear music came pouring out. Easy and very inexpensive fix. I'm very happy.

I did quite a bit of research into which of these cassette adapters was the best and the Philips brand seemed to be the best choice for overall quality. I use it to play my ipod nano in the car ('04 Toyota Camry) and haven't had any problems with the sound quality at all. I set the ipod volume at about 1/2 to 3/4 high, and adjust the car volume to get the sound just right--no "fuzz" or distortion with this method. I'm actually pretty impressed with how clear and rich the sound is with this. Sounds as good as CD quality to me. From what I've read, these aren't the most durable things, but they're cheap enough to replace without too much worry. Would buy again.

My son has tried more than a few of these type of adapters - mostly with disappointing results. The audio quality is often poor. Muted highs and exaggerated bass. The makers just don't have the heads on these adapters put out a good enough signal for the pickup heads on the car's player. That, or they just don't stay in the player, and get ejected. This happens because the player detects the adapter as a cassette that has stopped or jammed.

The first Philips unit (this one) we received was guilty of this second defect. Upon inspection, we found that the supply-reel (the one on the left if you face the open side of the shell) was caught into the shell, and unable to turn. We couldn't get the reel into a position where it would turn freely. One of the things these adapters do is turn that reel so that the player thinks "tape is rolling". However, for the 10-15 seconds the player did play sound out of this adapter, it was much better than almost any other we had tried. So, we decided to try another. We think it's great that with Amazon we could send this back for free. We did have to do that and order another (no direct exchange, but we got full credit - the replacement was essentially free). The replacement unit *did* function well mechanically (no eject), and the audio quality was as good as the first. So we are very satisfied, but give a "four star" only due to the hassle and apparent production quality problems. Customer service was Five Star.
