OK, so I live in an apartment building with an antenna on the roof and wired jacks connecting to this antenna in each apartment.
Originally I using the basic local package from the cable company and decided I didn't watch enough Live tv to continue paying for the package. So now I only receive internet service through the cable company. Then when over the air broadcasts switched to digital i connected to the digital antenna on the roof and was able to get over 40 channels free. then this last summer the antenna on the roof has been very unreliable. I'd lose signal completely or it would pixelate really bad. I bought this antenna yesterday from walmart, for $27 and it works like a charm. I positioned it against the window and get anywhere from 50% to 100% signal and I get 42 channels. I have two flat screen tvs with digital ATSC tuners built in. So I seem to get one more channel with this antenna then I did with the roof. As far as the two reviews that say they had trouble with reception: As always with any antenna, geographic location, building materials, antenna placement strength of signal all play a part in how well reception will be received. Also I know people with analog tube TVs that have a digital box. Personally I have read up on those boxes and they aren't are reliable as a new digital TV. In fact, most of the boxes i could find reviews on only had 1 or 2 stars. Most report the boxes having a short life, or inconsistent ability to hold, or even tune into a signal. P.S. I live in central florida which is flat. And my apartment is in a high rise, so i'm sure both factors help reception for me. One Last thing, I have gain turned up on max and i get great signal results. I have two tvs one in the living room and one in the bedroom, the antenna is shared between them with a splitter. People would assume one tv might not work as well due to signal loss, but on the contrary, both tvs are great with very crisp signals.

great antenna for the digital converter box,

I have old TVs (from the 90's) hooked to converter boxes and was using cheap rabbit ear antennas. The signal was awful and the picture constantly pixilated.
I bought this antenna at Walmart yesterday and hooked it up this morning. I re-scanned for channels and got several more than I had. And each channel came in perfectly clear. The picture has not once pixilated. I'm very pleased with this antenna and would recommend it to anyone with an older TV using digital converter boxes. UPDATE 10/10/10: This was worth every penny! If you're using converter boxes with older TVs, this is a great antenna. No more constant pixilation.

I've tried plenty of indoor HDTV antennas and to be honest, they're all pretty much the same as far as I'm concerned! I get about 21 digital channels here in Portland, Oregon with the farthest station no more than 6 miles away. I get ABC, NBC, CBS, Ion, CW, Universal Sports, Antenna TV (beginning Jan. 1, 2011), and various others. However, I am unable to get FOX no matter how I try position it, adjusting gain, etc. I had another more expensive antenna and couldn't get FOX with that either. Other people I know with indoor HD antennas do get FOX so not sure what the deal is. Many, many factors affect the ability to get certain channels; two-story or higher buildings nearby, airports nearby, etc so there's not too much I can do, but if FOX is the only channel I don't get I can live with it. Combined with a Roku and Netflix and Hulu Plus ($16 a month) I can live without cable.

I exchanged a more expensive RCA amplified antenna for this one and the results are amazing. This "cheap" antenna outperformed the more expensive one by a long shot. The RCA struggled even with the closest local stations but this Philips breezes through with no problems. I cannot comment on the VHF / UHF as I only use this to receive the free HD channels. My TV has never looked better. GOOD BUY!

I was having problems 'holding onto' a signal with a leaf antenna. The constant blackout screens were more than a nuisance. I was attracted to this particular antenna because the first line of it's description said that all functions controlled by a remote. Aha, I thought; amplified and with the convenience of a remote control! Alas, no remote with this product. But, having spent the dollars and waited for salvation from weak signals, I decided to try before bitching. It does work great. I rarely have a drop-out and can easily tune in the best reception in conjunction with my tv's viewable signal strength. I live on the 2nd floor of an apartment building in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. Anyone familiar with Pittsburgh is aware of the hills. . . Pittsburghers all have one leg shorter than the other!! I now love watching my beloved STEELERS in true HD!! In fact, all sports are so much better 'over-the-air' than what you get with cable. Okay, no remote; but a satisfying unit nonetheless.

Problem solved!,

This was easy to set up and within a few minutes, I was able to pick up 9 channels. I am so happy because we tried rabbit ears and could not get any signal. I am getting a near perfect signal for Qubo, a children's channel, so this is fantastic! No need to subscribe to cable for decent programming.

It works in a rural area pretty well. As well as any other antenna I've tried for listening to FM.

Works great, the picture quality is better with this antenna than I was getting with cable. I'm picking up more channels than I expected, hd and stadard. I'm using it with an hd tv, in a two story house, by the woods, if that's helpful to anyone.

The device was in perfect condition, connected to the TV, and was definitely enough for the TV to TRY and get a signal, which is a lot more than it did without this. However, we're located in a pretty rural location that's distant from all the transmitters. The nearest one is a one-channel transmitter, and we couldn't even pick up THAT one. However, the antenna itself seems fine, and it's not rated to be able to pick up signals from that range, so I can hardly blame it for this.Lesson learned; I should have checked the positions and ranges of the transmitters nearby before picking this up. Turns out, all the nearest transmitters are rated as being difficult to pick up from here even with an external antenna, apart from the one channel one, which only broadcasts a channel I don't want anyway. Next time I want TV, if I'm still living here, I'll be going with the Dish; but if I ever find myself back in the city, I'll probably buy one of these again. |
