YOU NEED TO KNOW THIS BEFORE YOU BUY,
By
This review is from: Philips SHE5910 Virtual Surround Sound In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
These are great headphones, but this you should know: there are absolutely no replacement earpieces for these headphones. I have searched high and low, even asked suppliers. You can find replacement pieces for thousands of different kinds of headphones, but not these. Philips doesn't make replacements, so no one has them. Which means you'll spend $30 on these headphones, use them for a month or two, and then one of the earpieces will fall off and/or get lost (or in my case, your toddler will chew it off) and then you will no longer be able to use your $30 headphones. Ever again. At all. A tiny little ten cent piece of plastic is completely unreplaceable. What a waste of money.

Best $9 ever spent,

I just gave away my Bose (gen 1) headset to someone who said they would use them. A friend of mine turned me onto these. Said he could wear them all day without fatigue. After an overseas trip I do find a small bit of discomfort, but a huge difference to an over the ear phone when sleeping/resting. Try resting your head on a side of a plane pillow with over the ear phones....ouch.
Really like the asymmetrical cord when sitting in a seat (like an airplane). Keeps the cord out of my lap which can be nice with food service, reading etc. I am sure there are better, but at what price? Best $9 I ever spent.

Nice headphones for a good price,

I really appreciate the asymmetrical cables on this set of headphones; they stay out of the way when I'm working at my desk. The sound quality is good for such an inexpensive product. No problems with getting the headphones to stay in my ears either, and they are very comfortable.

Too easy to lose ear bud,
By
This review is from: Philips SHE5910 Virtual Surround Sound In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
Liked the quality and they stayed in my ear while on the treadmill but like T. Tsan below I lost one of the rubber ear bud pieces so they are useless now. I will not buy them again. I asked at the location I bought the headphones but they don't sell replacement buds. I did not see replacments at Philip's web site either. I sent Philip's an email and they did respond asking me to call their customer service to order the replacement pieces (so they are available). I ordered a set of Sennheiser PX 100 Collapsible instead and they have been good. I use them on the treadmill. Even though they are the traditional style headphones they stay in place.

BEST headphones you can buy (for the price!),
By
This review is from: Philips SHE5910 Virtual Surround Sound In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
These are HANDS DOWN the BEST headphones you can buy (that won't cost you an arm and a leg).
They come with 3 DIFFERENT SIZES of rubber ear buds so you can pick the size thats most comfortable and won't fall out. The #1 complaint on here seems to be that the buds fall out of peoples ears.. THAT WOULDNT HAPPEN IF YOU USED THE proper *INCLUDED* EARBUD PIECES. Like I said, they have 3 DIFFERENT SIZES in each pack. If one size doesnt fit, TRY ANOTHER. You don't have to use the ones that come pre-loaded on the headphones! As for sound quality.... I can't go back to other types of headphones now. The surround sound has me HOOKED. These headphones offer a sound richness that I havent with ANY other pair of headphones (at a decent price). My first pair lasted over a year with DAILY use until my cat chewed thru one of the cords! There are a GREAT buy and in fact, I just ordered the replacement pair! As for earbuds falling off, NEVER had that problem! If you are wearing them correctly (with the wire to the RIGHT earbud running BEHIND your head), they will be some of the BEST fitting headphones youve EVER had. ANOTHER GENIOUS feature is how the wire splits into the 2 earbuds. Instead on breaking off into a 'Y' shape in front of your chest, the wire runs up your side directly to the LEFT earbud. The wire for the RIGHT earbud splits from the main wire on your left shoulder and goes BEHIND your head. THIS WAY THE WIRE ISNT IN FRONT OF YOU, CONSTANTLY GETTING IN YOUR WAY. Moral of the story : Use your common sense. Those extra earbud pieces are IN THERE FOR A REASON.

They just don't stay put!,
By

I wish I could comment on the sound quality of these, but the earbuds just would not fit nor stay in my ears no matter what I would do. I really liked the design and the asymmetrical cord. Sadly, they are worthless to me as they pop out as soon as I put them in my ears. I tried both sizes of plastic sleeves and it made no difference.

Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: Philips SHE5910 Virtual Surround Sound In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
I'm probably on my 15th pair of these headphones. Although I have a wide variety of expensive headphones I'm more impressed with these cheap little things. I can't get over the sound quality. I've spent hundreds of dollars on other headphones but I always find myself using these instead. I know some people aren't as comfortable with in ear headphones but I think these are the best pair I've owned. The only downside is if you use them frequently they'll wear out fast. I usually buy a new pair ever couple months. I used to get them at Kmart or Walmart but I think they stopped carrying them so I've been buying them in bulk on Amazon.

Most frustrating earphones ever!,
This review is from: Philips SHE5910 Virtual Surround Sound In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
These were by far the most frustrating earphones ever! They never stay in. What makes them so incredibly frustrating is that they do have GREAT sound, but you never get to enjoy it because you're constantly tipping your head to try to keep them from slipping out, or you're catching them as they do slip out, or you're trying to jam them back in your ear, which wears your skin raw. And then you think that maybe you're just not putting them in correctly, so you try all these different angles and positions, hoping they'll eventually stay in. One time I became so angry with them that I actually said out loud, "Whoever designed these earphones should die! AARRRGH!" Got some funny looks :) Don't buy this model; it's like tossing money into the trash, which is where my pair ended up.

Good sound...Poor quality,
By CJC (OC, CA) - See all my reviews

Of all of the "economy" ear buds that I've owned over the last few years these are at the top of my list for decent sound. They seem to produce a richer, fuller sound than any other similarly priced ear buds that I've tried. I've used the ear candy brand, 2 x Sony brand and one or two others and these seem to beat them all. The sound quality may be good, however, the physical quality of these buds are just plain disgraceful. I've now owned 2 sets of these head phones and they've both only lasted about 6-8 months a piece. I use them almost solely at my desk and both have had one of the buds die for absolutely no reason at all. It's very frustrating to me to shell out $20 for something only to know I'll get decent sound quality for only a few months. I'm definitely going a different direction on my next purchase as Philips has let me down for the last time. But then again, when it comes to electronics you get what you pay for and these are cheap...in almost every way.

Odd but sometimes good listening experience,
By
This review is from: Philips SHE5910 Virtual Surround Sound In-Ear Headphones (Electronics)
These headphones feature a pseudo-surround effect. They accomplish this by not completely fitting into the ear canal. Some sound is "leaked" around the perimeter, creating a effect that gives a wider sounding soundstage. The problem with this is twofold. The earphones may not really fit some people particularly well. I use the larger earpieces and they are fine for sitting, but tend to fall out when walking. The other issue is the audio itself. The effect works best with dialog or spoken word. In fact, I think it is the best way to use this headphones. For music they are lackluster; while many in-ear headphones emphasis bass heavy response (I prefer accuracy) these are the opposite, bass response could be characterized as "modest". If you see them at a low price, and watch a lot of video on your portable device, they might be a good addition. Otherwise, go with somethime more conventional like Sennheiser CX300's or Creative Lab 630's for a little bit more. |
