High-Definition Drivers for Full-Range Sound

The Uptown headset provides a balanced sound experience. Powerful 40-millimeter drivers produce crystal-clear highs and mids and deep, rich bass without distortion. Their closed-back acoustic design and over-ear build keep you immersed in your music.

MusicSeal Technology for Music Privacy

Whether you're listening to the guitar riffs of a funk metal band or the lifting soprano of an opera singer, Philips' MusicSeal technology allows you to keep your favorite music all to yourself. This design includes double-layer walls inside the ear shells and a firm seal between the edge of the ear cushion and ear cup housing to seal in beats and prevent ambient noise from disrupting your sound.

Comfortable Foam Ear Cushions Isolate Sound

The Uptown's noise-isolating ear cushions are made of memory foam, which molds itself to the shape of your ear for hours of comfort. The foam also forms a seal that preserves bass response while blocking out external noise so you can focus on the music. An air-filled, quilted headband adds to your comfort.

Comfortable Headband and Sturdy Aluminum Construction

The headphones' aluminum architecture keeps them light but sturdy, and an air-quilted leather headband makes for impeccable comfort. The flat, anti-tangle cable won't knot up, improving both listening experience and durability.

Convenient In-Line Volume and Mic for Phone Calls

For easy operation, the Uptown headphones include a sleek, in-line mic with volume control so you can switch seamlessly from listening to chatting and instantly adjust your sound.

The in-line mic is compatible with iPhone, BlackBerry, HTC, LG, Motorola, Nokia, Palm, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson mobile phones.

Product and Warranty Information

The Uptown over-ear headpsets have a 1.2-meter (3.93-foot) cable. They carry a one-year limited warranty.

The last issue I have is that the volume control on the cord is a bit annoying.

These arrived Friday. Taking my Dre Beats back to the store today. These are just better in every way; Comfort (by a lot), clairity, bass, and design (i.e., they don't have the tendency to snap in half like the Dre Beats do).

If you're on the fence between the Dre Beats and these, just go with these and save yourself time.

Just got the brown and grey version. Absolutely love the look of them compared to the black and brown versions.

First of all I come from 2 other pairs of headphones. The beat solo HD (got them free). They possess absolutely no range or soundstage. Very muddy. I also have a pair of the Bose QC15's since I commute alot and need the noise cancellation. The noise cancelling is great, but at a price. Clear sound, but hollow.

Now I read and watched reviews on these from CES and decided to take a leap of faith on these. $200 or $300 headphones are just out of my range and I needed a low impedance headphone since these are for my Iphone.

Just wore these for the first time and listened to tracks from the Avengers movie to see how they handle orchestral arrangements. Absolutely head enveloping, full range type of sound. I'm not an audiophile, but these blew me away. I know there will be some necessary burn in, but out of the box, it sounded like I was right in the movie theater. Just incredible.

I definitely will take good care of these. Ultra comfortable and the music seal works as advertised.

These headphones are exceptional. I heard about them from the Headphone Mecca.com website and I decided to give them a shot. Wow have they impressed me. Everything is so crisp and clear and the lows, mids, and highs are all near equal which is unheard of in headphones under $400. I love them and even prefer them over the previous favorite AudioTechnica ATH-M50s. Great headphones and I would reccomend them to any audiophile on a budget!

I'm not an audiophile. Average user, lots of usage at work in a quiet engineering office and while traveling.

Background: I'm looking for headphones to replace my $50 over the ear Sennheisers. I want to avoid noise cancellation while getting decent isolation. No leakage is a must, as it annoys me to no end when other people's headphones are really just speakers. I also want something travel friendly. The Uptowns definitely do not meet that last requirement, but I like the styling and since my Sennheisers aren't any better, I figure I'm at least accustomed to the bulk.

Sound-wise, these are excellent. I've been jumping around between REM, Death Cab for Cutie, Pitbull, K'naan, and U2. The bass-heavy music is where these shine. Otherwise, they're still good but not as impressive. No complaints. If I had to make a decision based on the sound alone, these would be top ranked.

The problem for me is sound leakage and noise isolation. It's not bad when the music is on, but certainly is not any better than my current Sennheisers or even the OEM earbuds from my iphone. I'm sitting in a quiet area right now with just a ceiling fan on, and I can hear it clearly, even with music playing. What's funny about this is that these are supposed to be magically awesome on both counts, from what I've been reading here and elsewhere. My guess is that my head is smaller than is ideal for these headphones. They feel a little loose, even retracted to their smallest size, but not uncomfortably so. They fit completely over my ears, and are so large I suspect they don't fully "seal." I've tried adjusting the pads to fit better but to no avail.

So, unfortunately, I'm taking these back to the store today.

Problems
Quality control issues by Philips. I had to go thru four pairs of these to find two good ones. The other two were unbalanced, meaning the right channel being quieter than the left. The right side was 30% quieter on the first pair, and 20% quieter on the second pair with problems. This is not much, and it is difficult to pinpoint for a casual listener, but for a premium headphone is inexcusable. After realizing the unbalance I went and measured in order to come with the numbers. This issue gave the impression the headphones were not detailed.
Nevertheless I realized the potential of these headphones, and the immensely pleasurable sound, and persevered until I gathered a really good pair.
The second problem is related to what you are using to drive these. A cheap amp like a Fiio E10 simply does not work because it destroys the bass by making it boomy and diffuse. I think muddy is the word. You will need an amp with very low output impedance, or a decent player.
I am using them with a Sony NWZ-S754, and I cannot put them down. They work quite decent with a Sansa Clip + as well.

On the plus side
The Philips Uptowns are good for all kinds of music.
When used with the Sony NWZ-S754, the amount of nice treble detail, and articulated deep bass, the forwardness of mids is amazing. They color a bit the sound in the most pleasurable way. The sibilance is absent, women voices are not crushed, a piano sounds like a piano, and the soundstage is nice. Indeed superb headphones. I have a Beyerdynamic 880 and they gather dust now. The Beyers are possibly more accurate, but they sound boring to me now because they don't come even close to the Philips in the detail department. Nothing in the price range comes even close. I should say they have angled drivers, wow!

In case you decide to buy them you have to be careful that you get a good balanced pair (!!!!), use a proper source, and you will be satisfied.
