Customer Reviews

Good sound quality, and very comfortable.

Around the sides of the ear cushions is a very soft velvety material, which I worry might tear with extended use.

I use them with my Samsung 3 android phone and the app, and it works great.

I was interested in this but was concerned about the original high cost and the fact that every single review was from the Amazon Vine program. When the price of these headphones dropped significantly I decided to buy them from one of the retailers on Amazon directly which had the lowest price.
These headphones are light and fit comfortably without being too tight. I have a large head and they rest nicely on it. I would not exercise with them though as I doubt that they would stay on.
What make these headphones standout is that you can listen to music and then talk on your Android device. The music and telephone calls sound clear and the people I talked to did not know I was using a headphone microphone. The button works to answer calls and to control the music.
There is an app you can download which allows you to assign specific functions to the button. For me it did not work right but then again I am not running the "stock" ROM from my original EVO 4G so your mileage may vary.
As I said above, the sound is very good though if you are a hardcore audiophile you may not be happy (if you ever can be).
For the average person these are a good deal and you will be happy with them.

Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
Philips SHL9705A is a stylish, elegant, and not flashy headset with lightweight (5 oz) sturdy aluminum construction that flat-folds, with a solid microphone & cord, functional in-line controls, optimization & customization through a less than perfect Philips's app Android-based. Sound is of quality, high fidelity, and warm, even if the bass performance and accuracy are less than top-notch. The soft and leathery pads provide comfort. It is affordable considering the Koss PortaPros cost $40, do not have a mike/controls, and feature an unrefined metal headband.

The app adds equalization-like enhancements, which remove flatness, and balance mids & highs w/ the bass, but also cause a little harshness at very high volume, but it can be turned off w/ a single, programmable, & slow in-line button, which, when held, enables hands-free voice calling incl. accepting and ending calls. The cans are hinged & rotate allowing the headset to become flat.

I was looking for a cheap pair of headphones with a mic to replace my broken AIAIAI TMA-1 DJ cans; to my surprise, I couldn't be happier with this budget pair from Philips. For $20, they are an absolute steal.

COMFORT
-- Feels light, but not cheap. The materials look great, and I've already received more compliments on these than on the AIAIAI's, which I thought were infinitely more attractive.

-- The material along the bottom of the headband feels like small beads, like in a small beanbag. Around the sides of the ear cushions is a very soft velvety material, which I worry might tear with extended use. Nonetheless, nice touches for a $20 pair of headphones.

-- The ear cushions themselves are cushy and soft, good for hours of listening... Although they warm up the ears on a hot summer day, one can always take them off for a moment to remedy the issue. If you rate a pair of headphones 1 star because they make your poor ears warm, perhaps you should dunk your head in a bucket of ice water.

SOUND & MICROPHONE
-- Passive noise canceling is decent, as long as music is playing. Not perfect, although I have big ears which might contribute to sound leaking in. Sound doesn't appear to leak out, but you can hear what's going on around you during a phone call and without music, which could be negative for some.

-- The mic is positioned correctly along the cable, and it works well for voice notes and phone calls. No complaints during phone calls, even in busy environments. I wish Philips could have included hardware volume controls, but again... $20

-- Sound is above expectations: mids and highs are allotted an equal piece of the soundstage with the surprisingly deep bass, resulting in a big sound and lovely balance regardless of genre.

I found these while looking for Android-specific headphones with microphone since my old iPhone headsets didn't work, and for whatever reason AT&T's Galaxy Note 2 do not come with a headset.

These sound incredible. There is plenty of bass but it is not overpowering or mushy. The highs and mids are crisp and present but warm and smooth. I truly can't believe I got these for under $30 delivered. As soon as I bought them I sent my brother a link and he bought a pair for his Galaxy S3.

These look and feel like high-quality headphones. The aluminum case adheres to plastic, but the $2-300 headphones I've seen on others' heads look like all-plastic to me. At any rate, they don't look like they'll break anytime soon and I've had them about a month now, wearing them on my commute to work each day. The cord is particularly durable, with an aluminum tip instead of knurled plastic. It's been yanked off my head a couple of times by a passing commuter or while wrestling with my own bags and there seems to be no wear as a result. The cord connections are still tight and good as new. It's also the perfect length for putting your phone in your front pocket. Unless you are freakishly tall.

These headphones are also rather loud relative to other headphones I have. That translates to good sound from weaker amps found in phones, tablets and computers, vs. a home theater system.

The only thing that lessens my opinion is the app that must be installed on your Android device in order to use the more advanced features of the single button on the microphone. It doesn't work with Jelly Bean (or Ice cream sandwich from what I've read). I assume Philips will one day fix it.
