I rounded up to 3 stars, if Amazon gave half stars, this would be a solid 2.5.
A little background on me and my reason for purchasing these buds:
I jog/run about 10mi/wk. Recently, I've started toting my old iPhone 3GS with me in order to track my workouts via the RunKeeper app. Being summer in New Orleans and running outside, I sweat profusely. I didn't get a mile before my sweat on the remote of the pack-in iPhone headphones caused the iPhone to start wigging out. Voice control would kick in every 5 seconds, songs would skip forward/back, etc. No music for me for the rest of THAT run. So, upon getting home, I dried out the iPhone buds and tried a few things, covering remote in packing tape (lasted about 2 miles on the next run before flipping out) and using this tweak on my jailbroken phne to disable Voice Control (can you believe Apple doesn't have a toggle to turn this BS feature off???) : [...]
So I'd fixed the Voice Control issue, but my buds were still useless. I tried using my old Zune buds, which worked fine, but not having the remote and no physical buttons on the iPhone became a big drag quickly. Off I went to Amazon to find a decent pair of cheap, water/sweat resistant buds with an iPhone-compatible remote. Easy, right? I mean, I see zillions of people exercising with iPhones every day, they can't all be using the pack-in buds and listening to their music in FF or Voice Dialing grandma and leaving her messages of heavy breathing, right?
After a day's research, it came down to the Philips and the following buds:
Jabras (wasn't sure about the quality of buds from a manufacturer really known for their headsets):

The Philips ActionFit ear buds are perfect for the following reasons:
* Designed to fit ear without falling out while exercising
* Moisture resistant mainly when sweating or cooling my face with a squirt from my water bottle.
* Extra length extension cord allows me to place the Ipod in one of my back jersey pockets.
* Volume control and Ipod control on upper cord near my neck is handy while riding.
* Does not entirely block sounds like cars or conversation noise, so that I can still hear around me.
* Good sound quality
The only issue I had was the connector appears to be gold and reacted with my sweat and the contacts in the ipod (two different metals plus salty sweat equals chemical reaction). After only one day, there was a bunch of corrosion on the plug and some of the remote functions stopped working. I was able to clean off the corrosion and regain my remote functions with a little bit of work. I now wear my ipod with the plug coming out of the top of the arm band and it's help prevent too much sweat from collecting in the headphone jack and causing issues. I've used it about every day for another month without the corrosion issues.
4 stars instead of 5 only because of the corrosion issues.
Two weeks after I got the headphones, I was walking my a door and the cord got caught on the handle. This caused the cord on the extension cable to completely disconnect from the jack, rendering the extension useless. I feel that the cord should have been able to withstand that though, but I just figured I had screwed up and moved on. It wasn't until another two weeks had passed (one month after purchase) that I noticed the next defect with these headphones. The little plastic "sticks" coming out of the buds (which the wires go through) both started cracking and within a day or two disconnected from the earbuds entirely. The wires are still connected, but the buds are nearly impossible to place in your ears now because there is nothing to hold on to. I'm not hard on my headphones or anything, so this is when I realized that the quality of the construction of these earbuds is nowhere near where it should be. It's a shame really, because I like their design, but I'm not going to have to put up with replacing them every month.
I should also note that volume controls worked on my iPod Shuffle, but would not work on my iPod Touch 4G or my Nexus 4.
