This is a great quality item, very nice design and the sound is nicely balanced (for a small room).

First I bought a Philips MMS171-PC 2.1 from Walmart for my wife's Mac. The quality is great. Nice bass, and the sound is louder than a sane person with neighbors would like to play music :-).
Later, I wanted to buy speakers for my laptop. I tested all kinds of speakers at CompUSA and BestBuy - none could compete with the Philips - that's why I went to Walmart to buy another set, but they only had the Philips SPA2360/17. It's similar to the first set I got - great quality sound and a very neat design.
Today I bought yet another set of the Philips SPA2360/17 for the living room. Then I realized that it's a little too small for a 30' x 15' space (the office where we use the first two sets is about 12' x 12'). However, with the bass maxed out, it still puts out a pretty decent, quality sound.
The subwoofer has a 4" drive, needless to say the depth of the sound is nothing like the one of my home theater 8" subwoofer, but overall it's pretty good with a pleasant balanced sound. I looked at many models on Amazon in the $15 - $120 range, I read a bunch of reviews on Amazon and ... decided to keep the Philips.

Don't buy it if you need it for a very large room, or if you like to feel the base with your guts like in a night club (really loud music).

The sound is very pleasant. Overall it's a GREAT PRODUCT!

I purchased this set of speakers in WalMart. My intention was to have a nice compact system that I could use to play music from my mp3 player, computers or the Television and this set seemed to fit the bill for all combination. They come with a headset input that I was able to plug and the quality of the sound was not very powerful, but loud enough to watch movies at night without any distractions. I was able to watch netflix from my PS3 or WII, watch satellite TV from my DISH and cable by using the TV's headset audio output. I was also able to listen to music from my cell phone or watch youtube off my laptop. The speaker comes with a wired volume control paddle that you can place next to the TV. The subwoofer acts also as the center where all wires get connected. The audio speakers both connect to one single port that can be unplugged. However the other wires (the volume control and the audio input) are not detachable.

After working for three months fairly good, the audio input wire started having problems at the prong where internally one of the wires broke near the plug and this causes problems to receive signal. Probably because of the way I was using the speakers to connect to several devices. The only way to fix this is by replacing the connector. The cable is attached to the sub-woofer and there's no way to just buy another cable to replace the bad one. This is a poor design on my opinion. The good thing is that I purchased a warranty at WalMart and this set of speakers are coming back for a replacement on another brand.

P.D. These speakers don't have an rca input.

We bought these speakers at Walmart and they started acting strange a few weeks after purchase. Amplified sound levels would jump up and down, speakers crackled, and volume control was finicky. Sound quality was decent enough for small speakers, but the build quality just isn't there. These are going back to the store tomorrow.

Noisy sound and caught fire. Mine caught fire in a cold room without touching any walls or furniture. Don't buy those dangerous BBQ speakers.

Meh, is okay. I expected better. Sound quality is so so. The wiring is kind of touchy so try to keep it away from the kids or static may occur when touched.

I picked up 3 of these systems for $11.99 per unit at a discount store today. I do custom electronics for a living, and I agree with the more technical reviews of this system. As far as the long term relaiability, I will just to see what happens. One post dealt with the actual frequency response, and I think that is pretty much spot on. I would have to hook up a scope to prove it, but it seems acurate. One thing that I noted with this system was the lack of noise between tracks, and a pretty darn nice audio taper volume control. The distortion when the volume control is raised is just about zero.

It is a little weak in the upper end, but it is so consistant with the volume control with the bass, and midrange that it is pretty nice. Speaker placement is always a big deal as lower frequencys travel slower than the higher ones. With the exception of the high end speaker systems that have technology that compensates for this.

Over all I think that this system is pretty tight. The wired remote volume control is nice, and the lack of distortion is very nice.
