I have ordered and returned several speakers of this size for their awful sound. Many sounded too tiny and or tinny but not this one! Big, amazing sound, great bass, easy to set up. It can be used with Bluetooth (iPhone or iPad) or via the headphone jack. As all Bluetooth speakers, it may hiccup for a split second if moving the speaker or the device. Battery recharges with included USB cable (it's actually a combined USB and headphone jack cable in one)
The volume and equalizer can be adjusted within the device settings. I tried several equalizer settings and all sounded great.
I definitely recommend this little guy as an excellent portable speaker, for the beach, or even a hotel room!
(See video ... trust me, it sounds better than what you can hear on this video)

Granted I have not tried any other mini speakers and I picked this one based on other reviews and the brand. I like the fact that it does not have an on board volume control, as I prefer one place to control it from. My pc has speakers with their own control the software has its control and the PC has its control. I end up chasing all the volume controls to get it right. Having 1 control is so much simpler.

There is no skip or stop button, again I like the simpler setup. My phone is never far from the speaker anyway and it keeps all controls in one place.

I like the attention to detail that phillips have used, the ribbed walls offer bump protection while a tang protects the speaker from larger objects.

There are 2 buttons on the speaker. One is for on off control and the other is answer calls thus using the speaker as a hand free device. The hands free option works really well in a low noise environment, like and office.

I noticed that the other speakers available offered 'daisy chaining' while this one does not, however I have not found a need to use more than one speaker. To me the point is compact wireless loud speaker capability, this product more than fits the bill. A cable is provided which is a 2 in one. One end has the normal 3.5mm stereo jack for sound and a usb plug for charging the onboard battery. The other end is a jack that is the same as my samsung, finally all my electronic items run off the same usb jack.

The bluetooth is flawless and connects automatically in seconds, as it should and connects to everything I have that has bluetooth. The battery is good for all day listening but does drain quicker is the volume is turned up. Charging is quick too.

Overall I would buy more an probably will

The bluetooth connectivity is super convenient. I use this mostly for listening to podcasts and audiobooks while in the shower or doing dishes, and it performs in this role admirably.

Two flaws:

* there's no grille over the speaker cone, but rather a strange little metal bar. This should protect the speaker from bumps, but not sharp pointy things or children's curious fingers.

* when turned up to max volume, the speaker buzzes. I think the severity of this defect probably varies from unit-to-unit, as there is some tolerance in winding the voice coil and the dimensions of the magnet. However, for the price I'm not too concerned. I just turn it down a smidge and it's fine.

I've tried a number of the wireless bluetooth speakers including the HDMX Jam and Jam PLUS (including 2 in paired mode) and, while the volume output isn't the most of the bunch, the sound quality more than makes up for it.

First, I would like to point out that there is no manual volume control on the speaker like the HDMX offerings (you control via the source device i.e. phone). I like this in that you only have to worry about one end when controlling volume. Sometimes I would leave the volume too low on the Jam or Jam PLUS and would get very quiet output requiring me to go back over to the speaker itself to increase its volume. Not a big deal but a frustration easily avoided with the SoundShooter.

The main praise I have for this speaker is that the sound quality doesn't get distorted. In fact, the sound while not as powerful is overall more crisp and clear than the other offerings. I ended up having to return my Jam and Jam PLUS units because I would get speaker rattle with the volume set any higher than 60% with any songs utilizing bass (rock, alternative, etc.). I even noticed rattle listening to classical music. I don't have this issue with the SoundShooter.

The only concern I have with the SoundShooter is that the driver is exposed with only a plastic arm partially extending over it. I generally keep it stationary in a safe place while enjoying the speaker, but the possibility of damaging the driver is higher than with the other speakers I've tried if you carry it around with you.

I'm not a fan of speakerphone calls and prefer to use a bluetooth headset, but I did try the feature out once and the sound quality was good, not great. The person on the other end was able to hear me without issue as well.

For it's size it's the best sounding powered portable speaker on the market.
Recently I took the Philips SoundShooter--or as I call it, the sound grenade, to work. We were shooting a commercial and wanted music between set-ups. Everyone loved the grenade. After the job wrapped the executive producer bought one!
Just this week I was down at their office, prepping a series of car commercials and the production staff was absolutely crazy about the soundshooter.
I'll lay odds that one day of taking it to work has probably sold another five or six for Philips.
It speaks for itself.
