3.0 out of 5 stars Spot On light
I bought this light for my pantry, it just doesnt do much to light up that size of a space, I was expecting it to do much better. It has a nice design and good quality construction, just not very bright.

Been using 2 of these now for 9 months and counting.
(TIP: If it starts not turning off as it should, it means batteries are low)

Requires 3 AAA batteries
Product Dimensions: 3.1 x 2.7 x 0.8 inches
LEDs

Pros:
-Motion sensing.
-No WIRES needed
-A very clever design where the battery cover is held by 4 evenly placed magnets. Once you attached it to the wall or ceiling, you do not have to unscrew anything to replace batteries. You can just gently lift the top and easily put it back. Magnets are strong enough to hold the unit in place.
-Light is enough to light the pathway of our stairs. Not strong enough to be obtrusive.
-You can place it anywhere you want; walkway, ceiling, bathroom, etc.
-Portability. Use velcro and you can use it in as many locations as you want
-LED bulbs last for 100,000 hours.

Cons:
- sensor range need to be wider
- turns off after 15 to 20 seconds, just the right time to be able to pass. But it would be better if the time it is on is adjustable.
- LEDs emit cool white ghostlike light.
- expensive for 14.99$

5 stars for usability and sleek design.

4.0 out of 5 stars great little night light, December 1, 2007
This review is from: Philips SpotOn LED Motion Sensing Portable Light (Lawn & Patio)
I placed one on my night stand near the floor. When i step out of bed, it turns on and provides enough light to avoid tripping over something but not so much too much light to wake up my wife.

5.0 out of 5 stars PSU Fan, December 3, 2007

Philip's Spot On is a great little light...I needed a small light for a tight spot and this motion sensor works great...I am thinking about buying more for safety throughout the house or buy one for travel -- will be good to use in a hotel for late night b-room breaks...

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic Product, June 11, 2008

This is a fantastic product -- a little cordless light as versatile as they get. And they do not come easily. I discovered a plethora of switch-based products, but none other which was motion-activated.

To what unique purpose have I applied this little beauty? I have placed it within a covered cat box, so our largish kitty could feel less claustrophobic while attending to his business. Or so says my wife.

I must confess that I have been so enamored with this little light that I have several times waved my hand within the cat box, and marveled at how magically it turns on. Perhaps I am easily impressed -- I am still amazed taking an airplane flight when the huge hunk of metal actually lifts into the air.

One other obsessive detail, mentioned by a few other reviewers: this light comes apart for a battery change, not by wrestling with the impossibly-tight Tab A in Slot B or the even more annoying micro-screws for which no screwdriver in your extensively well-equipped toolbox was made, but rather with an ingeniously simple array of four small magnets which readily pull apart when needed but which otherwise hold the unit snugly together.

This is truly inspired design and excellent construction. And it's a steal at its just-over 15 bucks price point.

Kudos to Philips. I suggest they next direct their attention to the blundering American automotive industry.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for those that have to get up at night..., February 11, 2008

This review is from: Philips SpotOn LED Motion Sensing Portable Light (Lawn & Patio)
I purchased two of these motion sensing lights for safety purposes. I placed one in the bedroom and one in the hallway & made sure that it would shine into the bathroom. This light can be attached to the wall with a screw, with sticky tape or Velcro. I chose to lean it against the wall (not a good idea if children or pets might bother it). It provides a very bright light that stays on just long enough to help whoever gets up at night. We really like it and feel it might help in an emergency, too. If the electric would go out, we could pick it up and walk around with it. If we have too much foot traffic during the day, we cover the light.
Update:
We've been using these sensor lights since late December 2007. Recently the light wouldn't turn off. After taking the batteries out, and not using the light for a couple weeks, the sensor light worked correctly again. About one month later, the light, again, wouldn't turn off. I was getting ready to send a letter to Philips about the problem when I thought that the batteries might be bad. The batteries tested in the red zone; apparently they had enough energy to light the LED lights, but not enough to operate the sensor correctly. So if anyone experiences this problem, check the batteries before giving up on this wonderful product.
UPDATE 2:
11/17/09 These lights are still working perfectly for us. We've found that whenever they malfunction the batteries are getting weak. Once we replace them, the sensor lights work perfectly again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not all that I expected...., September 21, 2008

I had this Philips Spot on LED Motion Sensor light on my list of things to pick up after seeing it demonstrated by Lou Manfredini on the Today show. I finally got around to ordering it and I have to say I was little disappointed. While it does do as promised, lights up when sensing motion and provides adequate saftey light~it does this 24/7!! It does not "rest" during daylight hours and there is no switch for on/off to disable it during the day. That would be the number one improvement I would suggest to Philips!!

Handy little lights that provide flexible mounting scenerios. Magnetic, tape,or screwed.I'm only giving these two stars as two of the lights have failed (I bought several) after only a few weeks. They have lost the motion-sensing function, and they stayed 'On' constantly until the batteries finally died. Not impressive at all. Would not buy them again.

3.0 out of 5 stars Phillips Motion Sensor No Energy Saver., September 9, 2008

I was looking for a way to save energy but the Phillips is not it. It goes on every time someone passes---day or night. This will chew up the batteries fast requiring a waste of energy to recharge.
If you really want to save on your electric bill and cut down on greenhouse emissions. I suggest the Maxxim motion sensing lights. They only turn on when it is dark.

5.0 out of 5 stars high end kitchen look and feel, September 11, 2008

This is a great because of it's bright light, perfect for under the counter. And, while the lights do turn off after 15-20 seconds, they do not turn off until 15-20 seconds after it no longer senses movement. So, you can work at a counter a long time with the light on. It gives a very high end look and feel to a kitchen. Best of all, if you have a solar changer for AAA batteries, as I do, you never pay for electricity, only the rechargable batteries. It's an enviromental win-win.
