2.0 out of 5 stars Good performance, gets extremely dirty inside, one toothpaste option
This brush performs well. However, use it for 3 weeks and take a look inside--it's filled with bacteria and grime. This stuff is very difficult to remove, especially from inside the part that holds the brush. This is not good because the same bacteria that comes out of your mouth can reinfect your mouth every time you brush.

My first impression of the toothbrush was how bulky it was. My roommate has a Sonicare and I figured it would be roughly the same size, but it seems bigger. It almost looks a little ridiculous, it has a huge handle and a small brush head.

But once you start brusing your teeth with it you forget about it and just enjoy it. It's simply amazing how clean your teeth feel when you are done brushing with it.

The toothpaste refills are a little pricey and they don't seem to be sold everywhere, but you can always put regular toothpaste on the brushhead if you wish.

Overall I'm happy with the product, but not with the size.

This brush performs well. However, use it for 3 weeks and take a look inside--it's filled with bacteria and grime. This is not good because the same bacteria that comes out of your mouth can reinfect your mouth every time you brush.
It tends to stay wet inside the brush which makes a great place for this stuff to thrive. The only toothpaste that will work with this is the overpriced Crest toothpaste. I only use Colgate Total (with Triclosan) so I never bothered adding another cartridge after the first few.
Don't be fooled--using this brush does NOT replace the need for flossing. Save some money and get the normal Sonicare brush without toothpaste.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great concept and a great product, August 14, 2006

I have used the older model Sonicare toothbrush for several years and was very happy with the results. Your gums feel great and your teeth are really cleaned well. So, I decided to update and purchased the I8300. Once you get used to it (a little bulky) I don't think there is another toothbrush that can compare to it. The concept of having toothpaste guided by you on your teeth and gums with just the push of a button is great. Afer using it for just once, you think your teeth and gums were cleaned by a professional. This is one great toothbrush and I highly recommend it, especially for people who have gum problems.
There is one drawback, the toothpaste refills are only made by Crest. But, you don't have to use the refills and can just put your own brand on the toothbrush.
Overall, a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars AMAZING CLEAN FEELING! Great idea and works well!, March 11, 2005
This review is from: Philips Sonicare Crest i8300 IntelliClean System Integrated Power Toothbrush (Health and Beauty)
This IntelliClean by sonicare is amazing! I bought this as a replacement for an older model sonicare and the difference is unbelievable. After just one use my teeth felt like I came from a dentist office... smooth and clean and refreshed. Sleek design and modern looking charger base just adds to this item. You won't regret this purchase and comes with a 2 year warranty from phillips/sonicare.

I love this toothbrush!

I rarely write reviews, but in this case I am doing so in the hopes that Phillips will bring back the Sonicare Intelliclean toothbrush. I have had one for approximately 10 years, since they first came out (whenever that was), and have since become so reliant on it that I didn't know how I was going to adjust to its extinction.

A few years ago, I stopped into my local Bed, Bath, & Beyond to pick up some replacement tooth paste cartridges and was told that they had stopped carrying them because the Intelliclean model had been discontinued. I was Crestfallen, if you'll pardon the pun, but I subsequently found I was able to order them on-line so I felt the disaster was averted. Temporarily. Then about a year and a half ago, the rubber on/off switch on my unit began to deteriorate, so I went to buy a new one on-line, thinking surely there must be some available somewhere, but I had no luck. I continued to use the brush as-was, using my tounge scraper to turn the brush off and on. Kind of a hassle, but worth it. Until today, when I finally ran out of toothpaste

You see, it's all about the toothpaste dispenser! Yes, the Sonicare technology is sensational, my teeth have never felt and looked so clean. I have not had a cavity or so much as a stain in over 10 years. Only the requisite amount of plaque build-up that my hygenist takes care of every 6 months. My teeth and gums are healthy, clean, and white, and I'm a 45 year old man, a stop and start smoker and an occasional coffee drinker. But the fact that this device is an All-In-One with the toothpaste built in saves me so much time and trouble, I can't imagine going back to uncapping a tube of toothpaste, squirting out way more than I really need, capping it back, and putting it away every single time I brush, which is at least 3 times a day. Yes, the cost of the toothpaste is a tad high, but I use so much less of it, only as much as it allows in its measured doses, that I hardly notice. Plus, whenever I go out of town, all I need to do is grab my toothbrush and I'm set. I never have to think about grabbing a tube of toothpaste to go with it.

Today, when I went on Amazon, I was so pleased to find that someone still had my toothbrush, the Sonicare Intelliclean Crest i8300 in stock, and it made my year, and hopefully my years to come, because I don't know what I will do when this one wears out. Please, Phillips, resurrect this model, I beg of you. I don't believe you gave it a chance, or marketed it effectively enough. Perhaps you could expand the variety of toothpaste that goes with it? That might make it more appealing. It is with some reservation that I post this review, out of fear that my touting it might make the last few in existence disappear forever. But on the other hand, if this review helps, in some small part, restore the Intelliclean Toothbrush to it's rightful place as the best toothbrush ever made, and subsequently prompts Phillips, or anyone else for that matter, to continue making them, and capitalizing on their greatness and efficiency, then I have not wasted my time. To anyone else who has tried the Intelliclean and loves it, please post a review! The more people who cry out for its re-birth, the better the chances that someone will hear us and put it back onto the shelves.

They don't make these toothbrushes any more and this one was apparently old enough that the battery in the handle will not take a charge. The problem is not the charge base, as it will charge our old unit. The charge base from our old unit will also not charge the new toothbrush handle. I had already thrown away the box, etc., since everything looked OK when I got it, so I am stuck with it and out $100+.

It did a nice job on my teeth, but lasted only eleven months. For the price, that's a real gyp. I had another one, same model, before I bought this one, and it didn't last more than a couple of years at most. I'm replacing it with something else.

3.0 out of 5 stars Works Great But What a Mess!, February 11, 2007
By
RBarr (Fort Davis, TX USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Philips Sonicare Crest i8300 IntelliClean System Integrated Power Toothbrush (Health and Beauty)
This toothbrush does the job and does it well. I have a top-of-the-line Oral B power brush as well as this one; while both are really good brushes, the Sonicare does the better job of cleaning--and it's much gentler.

So why only three stars? Several reasons: cost of the replacement brush heads, messiness, and cost and frequency of gel packet replacement.

It's neat having the gel right there in the handle, yeah. And if you can keep all your saliva in your mouth and rinse the brush head without getting any water on the handle, you might find this the perfect power brush. Otherwise, be ready for a mess. The handle has a hinged cover that flips open to receive the gel packet. It is not a water-tight design. Water enters the handle cover when I rinse my brush and then drains onto the charging base. It looks yucky and is yucky, and I wish I'd just gone with a Sonicare with less bells and whistles.

I rarely use the gel packets any more, because they, also, are expensive and do not last nearly as long as the manufacturer claims. They're gone in no time.

4.0 out of 5 stars clean teeth!, January 16, 2007
This review is from: Philips Sonicare Crest i8300 IntelliClean System Integrated Power Toothbrush (Health and Beauty)
i'm a smoker and have always had problems maintaining a nice white smile. this is a super powerful electric toothbrush and leaves my teeth sparkling white. you wouldn't even know i was a smoker if i didn't say something. i gave it a 4 out of 5 because it's a little bulky and takes a little while to charge.

I have owned a couple of these toothbrushes for me and my family. It was recommended by my dentist to reduce tarter build-up. I have nothing but good things to say about this brush and I love the integrated toothpaste. It does a fantastic job in keeping down tarter though you still have to floss. It is not the cheapest one on the market and the toothpaste replacements are expensive too but I think it is well worth the cost.
