Phillips Brooks was one of the best preachers of the 19th century. His writings are some of the best expressions of the evangelical liberal school of thought so popular at the end of the 19th century. Each page includes a selection from a sermon or essay plus a selected poem. As with any such work some pages are better than others, but Phillips Brooks' writing is so inspiring and up lifts the human condition that this book is a great book for anyone who is tired of the usual daily devotion books available.
