I'm assuming this is the same story as "Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone", the only difference being that it's an audio version. Why was the name changed for the audio version?

EDIT -- Now I see, "Philosophers Stone" is the title for the British version.

Mike Schmitt says:
a 'minor' correction, if anyone didn't already know:
"Philosopher's Stone" is the original and *correct* title. "Sorceror's Stone" was invented only for the Americanized version of the book, to dumb it down and make it more "kid-friendly". The unfortunate thing is, a "philosopher's stone" is an actual object of legend, very similar to what is featured in the book; there is no such thing as a "sorceror's stone" (or if there is, it's a plastic toy, made in China).

[Sarcasm]Yes, of course, the word "Sorcerer" is so much dumber than "Philosopher"[/Sarcasm]. Instead of indulging your bias against Americans by injecting it into every difference between the US and UK, perhaps you could educate yourself on how publishing houses choose book titles based on the target country. These changes are not made to placate dumb Americans or sophisticated Britons (or smelly French). They are made after careful consideration of multiple variables. They are not made because of simple-minded prejudices.
