About the Author

The Author: Andrea Oppo is Lecturer in Aesthetics at the Pontifical Faculty of Theology of Sardinia. He obtained his B.A. at the University of Florence, and his M.A. at the University of Bologna: his undergraduate thesis was on the Russian philosopher Lev Shestov, and his Master’s thesis on the Italian novelist Dino Buzzati. In 2005 he completed a doctoral dissertation on the philosophical thought of Samuel Beckett at University College Dublin. He is the author of articles on Russian philosophy, aesthetics, and philosophy of literature.

This is a very original philosophical study of Beckett's oeuvre. Whereas, in the past, so many studies have been based on one or other of Beckett's works, or have concentrated on Beckett's philosophical beginnings - or have even focused solely on snippets of Beckett, taken out of context - this book looks at all Beckett's work, as a philosopher, writer, playwright and poet, as well as examining his relationship both to the stage production of his works and to music. From such a comprehensive review, Beckett's view of philosophical aesthetics is reconstructed, and examined with reference to the interpretations of philosophers such as Theodor Adorno.

A must not only for students of Philosophical Aesthetics and of Beckett, but also for those of Adorno.
