Merrell-Wolff deserves wider audience,
By Steve Missal (Scottsdale, Arizona United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: The Philosophy of Consciousness Without an Object Reflections on the Nature of Transcendental Consciousness (Hardcover)
I first ran across Merrell-Wolff's book, Philosohpy of Consciousness Without an Object, over twenty years ago, before it had even been published. The photocopied version I have has been well used, and deserves a special place in anyone's libary who is interested in subjects (if that is the right term) like Zen, Buddhism, etc. It is a remarkable book, albeit archaic in some of its terminology and style. If you don't mind some turgid prose, you'll find many excellent technical and non-technical arguments that help close the gap between the West's discursive thinking and the East's more intuitive path. Wolff was the son of a pastor, and yet somehow found a more esoteric path to follow, and follow he did, with rigor, for years. Where he may have been lacking is the follow-up to the experiences he had, but they were profound, and mirror the satori experiences of the more well-known masters. I highly recommend you read this book and ponder his thoughts. Well worth the money.

I ordered the book, paid for it and was told it was in the mail. That was over a month ago. I have written and todate have not received a response. I'd love to read the book and comment on it's content.
