Book Description

0847684814 978-0847684816 September 1, 1997 3rd Edition
This popular anthology of essays by leading philosophers has been revised to expand the sections on homosexuality and sexual morality and to include essays on date rape and sexual harassment. Opposing arguments invite readers to join the debates over issues such as whether feminists should oppose prostitution and whether a causal connection exists between pornography and rape.

Editorial Reviews

Review

Praise for earlier editions: . . . provocative yet easily comprehensible . . . (Choice )

Fascinating and readable, the essays will challenge, reassure, and enlighten both scholars and students (at all levels). (Carol Caraway )

A first-rate, nicely balanced anthology, now much more accessible and interesting to those who never majored in philosophy. (Russell Vannoy )

Highly recommended. (Russell Vannoy )

Profitable for anyone philosophically interested in sex or language. (Philosophical Investigations )

Impressively, he [Soble] has constructed a unique and eminently useful anthology rigorous enough to appeal both to philosophers and philosophy majors as well as accessible enough to serve students encountering philosophy for the first time. Soble’s book is pedagogically very good, able to interest both the philosophically trained as well as introductory-level students and is thus highly recommended. (Essays In Philosophy: A Biannual Journal )
