My 9 year old & my 7 year old love the TV show Phineas & Ferb. So I though I would get them a chapter book about the series. Both of my kids couldn't wait to read it & they loved it a lot. there are a few black & white drawings in the book. It' s very much like the TV show.

This is essentially the same review for all of these books. My grand daughter wanted these for her birthday so I bought the entire set. I was able to get 8 for the price of 6 because of the deal they were offering at the time, and with free shipping, this was a superb deal overall. The books are at the reading level that I expected and appear to be of good quality and a story line she loves. She is so into Phineas and Ferb and her birthday party's theme is going to be that, so this is a good purchase for me and for her.

This series is based on a popular Disney cartoon, and reads like any other "novelization" of a TV show or movie. The hook is the fact that what was once a cartoon is now a book. The actual story and the writing is secondary.
That's fine if what you want is an angle to get a kid who likes the cartoon to start doing some reading. Actually, that's a fine angle. But if you are looking for a book that stands on its own by virtue of its story, or characters or the quality of the writing, well that's not what Disney is trying to do here. In all of the Phineas and Ferb books the plot is the same: Phineas and Ferb accomplish something difficult with ridiculous ease; this frustrates the sister Candace, (who I think seems like an OK sister and shouldn't always have to be the victim); meanwhile Perry the Platypus, their pet, who is really a secret agent, gets involved in some standard secret agenty stuff. That's it. There aren't any farts or boogers, which is good, but there also isn't too much in the way of sly or subversive humor, (not the Disney style). So, certainly a fine book to have in the family library, but not one I would search for unless my reader was really into the cartoon show.

I bought this for my 11 year old son to read to my 6 year old son...they both loved it! It was nice to see them getting along and doing it over a book no less. My 11 year old enjoyed the book so much he has asked me to purchase the others in the series for my Kindle and I will, gladly.
