From the fourth weekly issue of "Pickwick Papers" through most of the rest of Dickens' novels, success measured by the number of readers rested significantly on the illustrations by Hablot Knight Browne (Phiz) equally with the genius of Dickens. The great, great grand daughter of "Phiz" has written an absorbing acount that satisfies my curiosity concening publishing and boook illustratiion, and the life of the artist, when Dickens' popularity was at it's height.
