Book Description

EVERYONE HAS A SECRET FEAR...

Ex-cop Artemis Herne thought he left the grit and crime of the city in the past when he moved to a small town in Pennsylvania. But the discovery of a woman's dead body, bound and covered with snakes, sends panic through his community and ignites his investigative instincts.

As the serial killer continues to target his prey, Herne must confront his haunted past to uncover the pattern in the deaths. He soon discovers that every victim suffers from a phobia. And every murder transforms the victim's worst fear into reality.

Tormented by his personal demons, Herne is forced to face his own fears as he hunts for a murderer who uses terror for a weapon.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant Whodunnit! June 15, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition
This book had me hooked from the beginning! The plot is clever and well thought out, with just the right amount of 'red herrings' ,and kept me guessing for most of the book, something that doesn't happen often.
I enjoyed getting to know the characters and really cared about their fate. The story moved along at a brisk pace and I found myself reading faster as the race to catch the killer intensified. I didn't put it down until I'd finished it.
I love murder mysteries and this one was up there with the best I've read! I eagerly await more from this author!
I recommend it to anyone who enjoys a good whodunnit!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good Take on a Common Theme June 14, 2012

A quick relatively easy read - great main characters but not so great on the lesser ones.

There are a series of murders based on a common characteristic (each victim suffers from an intense fear or phobia) but those characters are not drawn in any great detail. I would have prefered a smaller number of victims and more individuality and description given to each of them. It's obvious the author is more than capable of creating a personality for the characters. The lead detectives are fully drawn out and colored in, as is the perpetrator of the crime - if the same care had been taken in the victims this surely would have been a ***** review rather than a ***.

As written, the victims almost seem an afterthought rather than people of importance. Perhaps that was the author's intention, but it made for less than a totally interesting read.

All in all, however, it was an entertaining story, well thought out and well presented.

4.0 out of 5 stars Enjoyed this book! June 26, 2012
Format:Kindle Edition|Amazon Verified Purchase
I wasn't sure what to expect because I got the book for free (thanks!). It turned out to be a really good story.

As I recall there might have been some swearing but I don't think a lot of it. There was one sexual situation but it was not discussed too much. I like to mention this for the faint of heart.

Herne, the main character, might have been your stereotypical cop but it certainly didn't bother me. He was fleshed out pretty well & you know why he is like he is. Someone complained that we didn't know too much about the victims in this book. I though there was plenty of information about them. You also got glimpses of what the killer was thinking which I always like.

All in all, if you love a good mystery & you like to know what makes the characters tick I think you will enjoy this book. I hope it becomes a series.
