5.0 out of 5 stars Practitioner's resource manual for phobia treatment, January 30, 2010

For a practitioner who wants to improve her or his treatment of phobic patients, this book remains an excellent summary of specific treatment methods. In addition to well-explained models of cognitive treatment of social phobia and agoraphobia, this is one of the few sources for more specific phobia treatments: water phobia, injection phobia with fainting, and accident phobia, to give three. On the treatment end this book includes a description of somatic tension as a method for treating phobias that involve fainting, and also Lars-Goran Ost's single-session treatment of specific phobias. Indeed, the latter two are the reasons I bought the book. Even though 12 years old, this remains a valuable clinical resource.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is the bible for phobias, August 17, 2007
As a psychologist specialising in phobias, I found this book brilliant. If you are after a self-help book for treating your phobia, then this book is definately not for you. This academic based book provides great information on all aspects of phobias e.g. origins, prevalence, which type of therapy is best - exposure vs medication, and different types of phobias. It also has a good overview of more unique phobias such as clown masks, vomiting and choking. From here it gives great references so you can further expand your knowledge on the area or phobia you want to know more about. If you read this book cover to cover, you are sure to come out being an expert in phobias. A must for any therapist serious about treating phobias.
