4.0 out of 5 stars Good HISTORICAL FICTION.
Excellent story for young people to understand this period in our history. Suggest ages 9 through 12 years old. Similar to Johnny Tremain, establishes examples for children to live up to for the rest of their lives. Will become a favorite with my family. Must be remembered that the book, as admitted by the author, is "essentially historically accurate."

3.0 out of 5 stars Phoebe Finds Hickey
Ssmuel Fraunces asked his daughter, Phoebe to go out and be a spy and look for someone that has a name that starts with a letter T. She has to spy because whoever's name starts with T, will kill General Washington. Phoebe is afraid at first, but then she says yes when she hears that her dad is upset tht they were going to kill General Washington. I liked this history...

5.0 out of 5 stars A really good book for children, July 16, 1999

This review is from: Phoebe the Spy (Paperback)
I first read this book when I was in the fourth grade. I still like to read it. It's about a 13 year old girl in 1776 Manhattan who is given an assingment by her father, Samuel Fraunces, to help save George Washington's life. It's nice to read about an ordinary person affecting history.

I have used Phoebe The Spy in my 2nd and 3rd grade classes as a Read A Loud book. The students love the story, especially because it centers around a child saving George Washington's life. This is an excellent book to use as a story starter for writing projects.

I liked this history book because Phoebe was brave and willing to do what her father asked her to do.

Phoebe the Spy is a great book. This is what happens: Phoebe's father asked Phoebe to be a spy and Phoebe said yes, she would do it. She was a brave girl. Phoebe is a wonderful spy. She helped save General Washington's life from Thomas Hickey. I likeed this book because it is a mystery book and I love mystery books.
