Product Description

By simply adding SunGuard to your laundry, you can transform everyday clothing into sun protective gear with a UPF protection of 30. SunGuard works by washing an invisible shield into clothing that helps block more than 96% of the sun's harmful rays from reaching your skin. With the active ingredient TINOSORB FD, a UV protectant from Ciba Specialty Chemicals. SunGuard can boost the UPF protection of a white cotton T shirt from UPF 5 to UPF 30. SunGuard is so easy to use. Add 1 package of SunGuard to a warm or hot water laundry load along with laundry detergent and you wash in skin protection for up to 20 washings. SunGuard won't change the color or comfort of clothing and is safe for even the most sensitive skin. .

Not a scientific test, but I plan to use it again.

On the box it states that it won't work with polyester and acrylic, but on their website it says that it doesn't work with synthetic materials.
Lau
It may not work on all materials but for me I have to buy those that it works on.

I have used this product for years, and it couldn't be easier to use. I'm not sure why the previous reviewer found it difficult. You just put a load of clothes in your washer that you want to sun proof and dump this powder in. It's as easy as that!

I have lupus and must avoid the sun year round. This gives me an extra layer of protection in summer and a way to go out in winter without covering my body in sun screen.

This powder also saves lots of money you would have to spend on SPF clothing, which is very expensive. You can't go wrong with this!

I have sun sensitivity because of connective tissue disease. I went to Calif with turtlenecks that I had not previously washed in sun guard. After the first two days of burning through I washed all my turtlenecks in Sun Guard (fortunately I had taken some with me.) I didn't have anymore trouble the rest of the vacation. I love this product. It may not work on all materials but for me I have to buy those that it works on.

The product is an excellent idea, but there aren't many fabrics that it can work on. On the box it states that it won't work with polyester and acrylic, but on their website it says that it doesn't work with synthetic materials. Unfortunately, clothing these days use a lot of blending, which includes synthetic materials. In addition, the product needs to be used in hot water. At least in my case, most of my clothes are not meant to be washed in hot water. Lastly, it is a pain to use with front loading washing machines. I am very disappointed by this product.

The box says that it doesn't work on polyester. They should say this in the product description! Most outdoor active wear is polyester blends.

UV protect-ant clothing is soooo expensive - I am ordering more to keep me safe from the harmful rays of the sun at all times and be able to layer my protection without excessive heat.

You use one package of this product for normal loads and two for extra large loads. If you soak the clothes in the sink with it, you use 1/2 package. It does not work on polyeater or acrylic fabrics, so if you have clothes that are a cotton-polyester blend it likely will not give full protection. Also you cannot use bleach. A couple of problems I had is that the washing water temperature must be at least 100 deg F and the wash cycle needs to be set for at least 15 minutes. My machine does not allow you to set the wash cycle time and it only washes for about 8 minutes. So what I ended up doing was soaking the clothes with the Sun Guard in the kitchen sink and making sure the water was at least 100 deg F. It seems to be working as advertised thus far.

You can buy new clothes that have sunscreen imbedded in them or you can wash into your existing wardrobe. I choose to wash it in. Easy to use and lasts for several washings.
