I don't know whether to be alarmed or amused at the reviewers who find this deck limited to one use, but it does make me wonder about their view of work with past lives. This is NOT a deck to tell you that your name was Mary Smith-Jones-Brown and that you were born in Dublin-Cairo-Edinburgh in 1835-1637-3500BCE. Past-life regression and hypnosis may help you establish these things to your satisfaction, but I would caution that even the most competent and ethical of hypnotherapists has to work very hard to avoid influencing subject recall.

This deck identifies 28 times/places/cultures with strongly resonant energy. The cards are exquisitely painted, each in a very different style. The querent looks through the deck, allowing him/herself to be drawn to the most "magnetic" of the images. A reading is comprised of the seven most strongly attractive (in the magnetic sense) cards. The author makes it very clear that this would not be the sum total of a soul's previous journeys; rather, the cards suggest which previous incarnations are the strongest influences on the querent's current life. (So, unless you , your life circumstances, issues and needs never change, repeating readings from time to time is a very useful process.) The readings may also be linked to planetary influences, which I find valuable. Shorter readings combining past life and planetary influences may be done more frequently. Once you get to know the deck, it is very simple, when confronted with a puzzling, unresolved, or "stuck" situation, to draw one (or two or three) cards, asking "What past life influences are most with me now?" I have always gained some illumination from doing this!

This is one of the strongest decks I've workied with in terms of the art and the writing being equally strong. I find the descriptions and interpretations careful and thoughful, with a wealth of detail. I appreciate the way information is presented, allowing the reader and/or querent to feel what is currently resonant -- and I have noticed that my understanding of the information grows and matures as I do. There is plenty of room for further research and learning on the querent's part. The images are particularly useful for connecting to the "feel" of a culture, and they are so beautiful that using the deck is always a wonderful experience.

I would never be able to sum up what has happened even so far in this life with one card reading once, so I can't imagine why anyone would assume the same of several past lives. This is a wonderful deck for continued use over time.

5.0 out of 5 stars Uncanny Accuracy, June 12, 2000

This review is from: The Phoenix Cards: Reading and Interpreting Past-Life Influences with the Phoenix Deck (Cards)
I was in a Past Lives workshop last weekend and after the co-ordinator ran us through the card selection and the sorting the final seven into relevance order, most people in the group found the cards to be a very (80+ %) accurate description of themselves as they really are. Most systems of cards or even astrology uses general terms to give the illusion of accuracy. This set of interpretations was much more than that. It was as though each set of interpretation was tailored to the individual. I will purchase my own set and recommend them to anyone else who wishes to find out more about themselves and why we are here.

5.0 out of 5 stars My Intuition Was Completely Right!, January 24, 2007
This review is from: The Phoenix Cards: Reading and Interpreting Past-Life Influences with the Phoenix Deck (Cards)
I was drawn to these cards when I first read about them on some random website. I had to have them! After searching every bookstore in all of my neighboring cities and not finding them, I decided to make my first online purchase.

These cards are absolutely amazing! They are much more than I could've hoped for, and well worth shopping online for!

I've done readings on myself, and although they tell me what I already know, they also tell me what I know but was afraid to face. The readings validate my feelings and intuitions.

My friends that I've done readings for (totalling in the 50's) have been absolutely amazed by the accuracy of the cards I've drawn for them. I've only had two people, out of over 50 people, who have said that the reading was not right for them. To me, that is absolutely amazing!

I would recommend these cards to anyone who wants to explore their inner self and essential spirit and soul. These cards are a remarkable tool to help a person begin that journey.

4.0 out of 5 stars Insightful, but a teeny bit "too much", November 17, 2007
By
This review is from: The Phoenix Cards: Reading and Interpreting Past-Life Influences with the Phoenix Deck (Cards)
I have really enjoyed this deck, but it is a teeny bit complicated. The book goes into a lot of depth on each of the cards, which is wonderful for sitting and reading yourself, but a bit cumbersome when working with others using this deck.

There is a lot of history with each card and information that goes into great deetail, but I found myself skimming everything to get to the "meat"of the card.

If you enjoy past life work, snatch this up! It is insightful, helpful and interesting. If you had planned to use this for reading for others...probably not the best choice. Not a negative, just an observation, as I have really benefitted from this deck!

2.0 out of 5 stars Oracle is limiting and too generalized., May 14, 2001

This review is from: The Phoenix Cards: Reading and Interpreting Past-Life Influences with the Phoenix Deck (Cards)
This is an okay tool/oracle set for helping to work with past life "influences." I would suggest it for someone who is new to past life theories and information and is looking for a start. It does make for a decent "beginner" past life oracle spring board to work with in perhaps, by aiding the user in gently accessing and easing the subsconscious in helping to remember with past life recall by looking at the cards and reading their descriptions. However, the deck set is limiting after that. Once you have accessed and read through each card and read the card description in the book, you have nothing else to gain in finding new information in working with the oracle again, in order to move on to something else of new information when you want to do another reading with it.There are only so many past life offerings and suggestions the authors offer within the deck set and they are, in my opinion very generalized in grouping you into the classic past life geographical and character catagory and scenerio. I also have trouble with the the concept it offers. I am hoping not everyone believes that whatever card(s) they pull in the oracle, is set in stone that they believe was definitely indicating that this was indeed, their past life. Take with a grain of salt in knowing not everyone was a Great Indian or Egyptian Goddess or African warrior. The deck is far too generalizing with its groupings. Going back to the deck after that, in my opinion, serves no further use for further advancement within the deck set. Therewithin, lies its limitation.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not just for past life exploration, Good Present Day Oracle, November 28, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: The Phoenix Cards (Paperback)
This book and cards were a guide, not the total answer to your past lives. I hold the belief people have many lives, therefore, many realities, cultures and languages in their past. This book was an excellent historical introduction to numerous cultures and times that were noteworthy. It mentions traits of the people and then how you may be now in the present, if you pick that card. It was pretty neat. The pictures are in color and accurately depict the time/meaning they are supposed to. If you don't believe in past lives, try using it as an present day oracle for telling you something significant about the person you are reading for!
She provides a chart of the key phrase, place and time, ruling planet, rules and traits of the people for each of the 28 cards. There is a spread called Past life Mandala. Some card examples include Chinese Bear, Greek Painting, Aborigine bark Painting, and Early Christian Catacomb painting. Hopefully you get the idea by those cards. I am pleased I got these cards, I know I will find them useful for friends. I recommend these cards to someone who is intuitive and can elaborate on information given either in the cards or the person in front of them.

This review is from: The Phoenix Cards: Reading and Interpreting Past-Life Influences with the Phoenix Deck (Cards)
I got it as a birthday gift since the person in question had
demostrated interest in it.

When he opened it he was so glad to find that the cards looked far better than on the web and the book also seem to offer a good reading time.
