4.0 out of 5 stars Great value for your money.
I've tried this on every setting my Rebel XT digital SLR has and it always gets a well exposed picture with good white balance. You do have to set the ISO on the flash which some flashes do for you. Considering the price and the versatility of the flash, I certainly would consider it over the Canon version. It is, as described, tall and a little bulky in size but that...

2.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work correctly with my Rebel XTI
The flash was very big and bulky. The flash never did sync right with the camera. Even after I messed with the ISO settings on the camera. To me the flash was a little more than you got with the camera. It might be ok if you are doing very little flash work. When I received it I imediantly opened it up to take pictures and was very dissapointed by the lack of quality...

This review is from: Phoenix DZBIS-112CII Digital Autofocus Flash (E-TTL II, E-TTL, TTL) for Canon EOS Rebel XT, XTi, XS, XSi, 20D, 30D, 40D, 5D Digital SLR Cameras (Electronics)

Considering the price and the versatility of the flash, I certainly would consider it over the Canon version. It is, as described, tall and a little bulky in size but that raises the flash height which is one of its selling points.

It's a little bigger and bulkier than I was expecting size-wise, so it makes the camera heavier and more awkward to hold, but if you have the battery grip it makes it much easier... it works great and I love the even lighting that it gives off.

This is my second purchase of this item. This product is a very good value for the money. It works as it should. It does not have the very best construction but Omegasatter backs their product. I have no complaints. Good tool for the tool bag.

pros: great flash. swivels and tilts. great output and control. fits my gary fong cloud filter. original unit was DOA, but customer service at Phoenix sent a new one, no charge. Also, it's way cheaper than the canon flash.

cons: a little big and clunky, but hey, it's a flash.

I am using this flash on a Canon PowerShot S5 and it works well. On this camera you really have to use in on manual mode, and that seems to scare some people. Having learned photography back when everything was pretty much manual, it does not seem so bad, and in fact if you will invest the time to learn how to shoot in manual mode you will be a better photographer for it. Those that have said it is no better than the built in flash don't know how to use it or they got a bad unit. On the S5 and similar models you can quickly control the output strength of the flash (under function menu) and then shoot to your heart is content. Swivel the flash up increase the output and bounce it off the ceiling or even off the wall behind you. You can shoot across a large room and still get very well lit pictures. Is it as good as a speedlite? No. If you don't want to learn how to really use a flash buy a speedlite. If you don't mind learning a little and saving a lot buy this one.

I had a canon flash but it broke and I did not want to spend the money on another one so I tried this one instead but I learned one thing "you get what you pay for"...

For what I needr at the moment it works just fine. If you are a serious photographer I would go with a Speedlite. But if your just looking to take some casual pictures and would like a better flash for a fraction of the price I say go for the phoenix flash. I like that the head of the flash rotates almost 360 degrees.

3.0 out of 5 stars not bad at all, October 19, 2008

it's a little big but works well on my camera....kind of reminds me of the quanteray flash i had on my old rebel 35mm camera..kind of bulky, kind of heavy and not as well built as the cannon flash or even the quanteray, but for the price a good deal...i would recomend it to anyone who wants an entry level flash for their canon DSLR.

I got this two days before a fashion show and was skeptical of how it would it perform. It did not mis a shot. It automatically synced with my Canon T1i. I did have my camera on multi-shot and would only reset after three. When I changed to single shot the flash never missed. At the end of the show a few of us ere comparing our aftermarket flashes. Everyone wanted to know where I got mine. When I found out most of them had $250+ aftermarket flashes and most kept missing shots I felt so relieved. Highly recomend this flash ameteur or pro.

I bought my wife this flash as a present to compensate for her digital SLR's weak flash. The flash is bright and white. It is a great advantage to be able to fold the flash away from the object you are photographing. The best is being able to reduce the red-eye on my dog.
