6.5 Inch Two Way In-Wall Loudspeaker System

Amazon.com

Save space without sacrificing sound quality with this pair of Phoenix Gold ATi6 in-wall speakers. Each two-way speaker is equipped with a 6.5-inch polypropylene cone woofer for the low and mid-range frequencies and a 1-inch pivoting tweeter that handles the highs. The upshot is a high-performance speaker with a wide frequency response of 40 Hz to 20 kHz. More importantly, the speakers are designed to flush mount within the walls of your living room, bedroom, or kitchen, where they'll reproduce your favorite music or movie soundtracks while taking up a single inch of shelf or floor space. Each ATi6 even includes a paintable grille, so you can alter the speakers' appearance to match your wall or furniture colors.

Further enhancing the sound quality are the swivel tweeters, which users can angle toward the main listening area for the best possible directional sound. The swivel tweeters remove the stigma of many in-wall speakers, which otherwise limit your listening options by emitting the high frequencies in one direction only, where they can easily get lost amidst the room's acoustics. Add in the tweeters' treated ferro-fluid-cooled voice coils, which extend the highs and minimize distortion, and you'll enjoy crisp, intense audio that fills up the room.

Additional features include a moisture-resistant housing (appropriate for hot tub enclosures and other traditionally "wet" indoor locations), a power handling capacity of 200 watts, and Butyl rubber surrounds for durability. Each speaker requires a mounting cutout of 7.62 by 10.81 inches (W x H) at a depth of 3.38 inches.

These speakers really sound good at volume and I was surprised at the amount of low end they have.

Yes, these are not audiophile grade speakers. However, I can drink $2 Chuck and Insignia (Phelps) and appreciate them for what they are. These speakers installed easily and are clean and attractive on my walls. The pointable tweeter is a nice touch as I can aim them toward my ears on my couch. Most of the sound coming from them when watching movies/tv is appropriate for the quality of the speakers. I no longer have to wonder where the wires will run or the speaker stands will go for my surround speakers, its all in the wall. Buy 'em, you won't regret it.

The Phoenix Gold ATi6 in-wall speakers are an outstanding value at Amazon's price. The quality of materials and construction are far above what I expected at this price point. The sound quality is appropriate for this type of speaker, and is clearly a step up from other speakers in the sub $100 arena. I drive them with an Adcom 545II, and power handling is on the upper end of what I expected from a single 6.5 inch driver. Installation could not have been simpler, and the beefy push terminals were a pleasant surprise.

I was nervous when I purchased these for $40 from Amazon, thinking they would be poor quality, but I was pleasantly surprised. They have good sound, and installed very easy. The instructions were good, and they had a handy cardboard cut-out jig for marking the walls. They produce very little bass, but that is completely understandable, considering its a 6" speaker in a "sealed enclosure". They were easy to paint too.

The five stars that I used to rate this product is because of the value they represent, not because they're the greatest speaker to fit in a wall. I am using them as secondary main speakers, and they do the job very well. To a big degree, getting them mounted in the right place at the right height in a room with decent accoustics is key, and arguably as important as the speakers themselves. They were also pretty easy to install. I bought a hand saw that was made specifically for cutting drywall for about $4, which worked fine. The templates to cut the holes were easy to use too. I would be very surprised if anyone ordered these speakers, installed them as they were supposed to, and did not like them.

I am no stranger to in-wall speakers. I have been using them since 1992. While in-walls have some sonic disadvantages the aesthetics are usually worth the trade off. Theses speakers have some nice features that I had not seen in prior purchases. The speaker binding posts are very nice. The tilt/swivel tweeter helps imaging. The install was easy. I have since purchased a few of the single speaker summed mono Phoenix Gold in-wall for bathroom installations. With the low price, easy installation, and great sound I can easily recommend these to anyone considering in-walls.

I was hesitant to purchase these speakers but after reading the reviews I decided to give them a try. Do not waste your money on the other more expensive brands of speakers including Bose and Polk. I have listened to every high-priced speaker on the market for two-years trying to make-up my mind on the best sounding speakers, including at the local Bose factory store. These speakers are in my opinion better sounding than the Bose speakers on display at the Bose factory store. If you are into wasting your hard earned money for a name plate on the speaker grill then then over-priced "high-end" speakers are for you.

These speakers cost $49.95 delivered to the front door... you do the math.

I was looking for in-wall speakers to complete my home theatre system. I was this close to purchasing a pair of Klipsch speakers for $200 when I researched on Amazon and came across the Phoenix Gold ATi6 speakers. I read the numerous glowing reviews and couldn't believe the price- less than $60.00. Since these were speakers were for my rear surround sound, I wasn't as concerned about pure musical listening quality as I have Infinity satellite speakers (FL/FR/C) and sub-woofer plus a Denon receiver to power the majority of my listening and movie watching. But my wife wanted the flush look in our living room decor- so I ordered these somewhat skeptically with the thought they were only $60.00 and give them a try.

Wow, was I impressed by the following:
1) The packaging was top-notch quality, each speaker came individually cartoned and were very well protected in plastic and sturdy cardboard. This may not seem like much, but is so important when shipping from overseas.
2) The instructions. Very easy-to-follow and understand in plain well written english. So many instructions skimp on detail or have poor grammer- these were superb. They also came with easy wall templates for marking your installation- very fool-proof.
3) Quality of materials- the speakers are beautifully designed and manufactured- I was also very impressed as you can see all of the components. Very good attention to detail.
4) Product performance. Once installed, the speakers were set up using the Denon Audessey set-up and they sounded great. Nice deep bass and highs plus good mid-range- outperformed the speakers they replaced by a mile. I was very impressed by the sound reproduction when watching Dolby DTS adn THX movies.
